Coronavirus: Germany To Evacuate Citizens From Nigeria

The German Mission in Nigeria is set to airlift its citizens wishing to leave Nigeria amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Mission is collating list of interested nationals and has asked them to fill forms on its website.

“Due to the extraordinary circumstances with regard to COVID-19, temporary entry restrictions were decided for Germany and international air traffic to and from Nigeria until April 23rd.

Coronavirus Strikes 151 Dead In New York In 24 Hours

New York on Sunday announced 3,250 new cases and 161 deaths from the coronavirus disease within 24 hours.

Data released by the state Department of Health shows that the number of patients rose by 10.4 per cent from 29,158 on Saturday to 32,308 as of 9.30a.m. on Sunday.

Similarly, the number of deaths jumped from 517 on Saturday to 678 on Sunday, representing a 31.1 per cent increase, according to the information.

A breakdown of the figures by Boroughs (Local Governments) shows that Queens is the hardest-hit with no fewer than 10,373 cases and 219 deaths.

WHO Clarifies Rumours Of Coronavirus Being Airborne

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has disclosed that the message spreading on social media that Coronavirus (COVID-19) is airborne, is incorrect.

The WHO headquarters in Geneva explained this in its official twitter account @WHO at the weekend.

The agency said the virus that causes COVID-19 was mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks.

Confirmed Cases Of Coronavirus Hits 111 In Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday night, confirmed 14 new cases of coronavirus in the country.

This was disclosed via a tweet on their verified Twitter page.

“Fourteen new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 9 in Lagos and 5 in FCT

As at 09:30 pm 29th March there are 111 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria with 1 death,” it read.

A breakdown of cases as at 9.30pm today, shows that Lagos still has the highest number with 68 patients.

People’s Bank Of China Injects $7b To Revive Economy

People’s Bank of China (PBoC) on Monday cut interest rate on loans to banks by the largest margin in five years, to help the world’s second-largest economy weather the effects of coronavirus.

The bank also injected 50 billion yuan ($7 billion) into the financial system.

PBoC said it launched a 50-billion-yuan reverse repurchase operation and lowered the seven-day reverse repurchase rate from 2.40 percent to 2.20 percent.

It was the “largest cut since 2015 and takes the 7-day reverse repo rate to its lowest on record”, said Julian Evans-Pritchard, senior China economist at Capital Economics.

A chartered medical evacuation flight on Sunday crashed during takeoff in Manila Philippines.

The plane carrying emergency medical supplies to Japan amid the coronavirus outbreak crashed and exploded.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority, the WestWind 24 aircraft was taking off from Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport when it burst into flames and crashed adding that it killed all eight persons onboard.
