COVID-19: Borno Shuts IDPs Against Visitors

The Borno State Government has banned visitors to all Internally Displaced Persons’ camps across the state in order to properly curtail the spread of the dreaded Covid-19.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum who gave the directive to shut all IDP camps from visitors said the strategy will contain the spread of the virus if there is no contact with visitors coming.

The governor said, with about two million Internally Displaced Persons in camps in the state, government was not going to play around with the lives of these vulnerable people who by their conditions are living in a high risk situation

Twenty Osun Judges In Isolation Over COVID-19

Commissioner for Health in Osun State, Dr Rafiu Isamotu on Wednesday confirmed that 20 judges, who recently travelled to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirate were presently on self isolation.

He added that the judges went into isolation immediately they arrived the state to ascertain their medical status as the killer disease ravage the world .

Isamotu made this known on the sidelines of a press briefing at the Osun State government house in Osogbo, where the governor intimated newsmen about the index case in the state .

COVID-19: Edo Speaker Tests Positive For Coronavirus

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, has tested positive for coronavirus.

This was revealed by the Deputy Governor of the State, Phillip Shaibu, during a press conference in Benin, the state capital on Wednesday.

Shaibu confirmed that Okiye is the recorded case announced earlier by the state government.

Prices Of Goods, Transport Fares Skyrocket In Lagos

Prices of consumables and some other goods including transport fares have, astronomically increased as the Lagos State Government ordered that markets across the state be closed for some times starting from Thursday this week.

As coronavirus spreads to six states in Nigeria, with fear that the infection could get worse, highly-placed health workers have said that the nation does not have up to 500 ventilators across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The coronavirus epidemic in Italy is far from easing as fatalities surged in the last 24 hours, the Civil Protection Agency said on Tuesday.

The death toll rose by 743.

It was the second highest daily tally since the outbreak emerged in northern regions on Feb. 21.

Coronavirus: UN Mobilises ₦756m To Aid Nigeria

The United Nations, on Tuesday, said it has mobilised $2 million (₦756 million) to assist Nigeria’s fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Mr. Edward Kallon, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria made the announcement at a “national conference” in Abuja, according to a report on the United Nations website.

Kallon said the funds would be used to procure essential medical supplies in support of the government’s efforts to contain the virus and care for those infected.
