Flight MH17: Trial Opens On Four Accused Of Murdering 298

The trial has opened in the Netherlands of three Russians and a Ukrainian – still at large – for the murder of 298 people aboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, shot down over Ukraine in 2014.

The Boeing 777 went down amid a conflict in eastern Ukraine, after Russian-backed rebels seized the area.

Investigators say they have proof the Buk missile system that shot it down came from a military base in Russia.

A judge called it an “atrocious disaster”, as proceedings began.

NCC Deactivates 2.2 Million Improperly-Registered SIMs

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has said 2.2 improperly-registered Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards across Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have been completely deactivated.

Danbatta, at the weekend in Abuja, said the action was sequel to a ministerial directive that the NCC should compel service providers to block all improperly-registered SIM cards, pending when their owners regularise their registration.

The EVC recalled that prior to the directive, NCC Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Team, had reduced the number of questionable SIM cards in the country to 9.2 million.

Not bothered by coronavirus fears, North Korea fired three unidentified projectiles into the sea on Monday, Seoul’s military said, the second such weapons test by Pyongyang in a week.
