The Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe was among the voices in the senate who asked for the executive to make details of $22.7b loan known before its was approved on Thursday.

A video which surfaced online shows that there was tension on the floor of the Senate on Thursday following the insistence of the opposition senators to know details of the $22.7bn foreign loan request from the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Senate Under Fire For Approving Buhari’s $22.7bn Loan

The Human Rights Writers Association, HURIWA, has described as vexatiously unconstitutional the decision of the Ahmed Lawan-led Senate to approve President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to borrow $22.7 billion despite objection from some Senators.

The rights group believes that the collection of the foreign loans, which would be re-looted by governmemt officials, offends several provisions of the Nigerian constitution including sections 16(1); (2) of the Nigerian constitution.

HURIWA noted that the section of the constitution opposes excessive borrowings that makes Nigeria a slave of external jurusdictions and impedes our national drive for self reliance.

Saudi Arabia Reopens Holy Sites After Disinfection

Saudi Arabia has reopened two of its holy religious sites in Islam after they were closed for sterilization to halt the spread of the new coronavirus.

As reported by the state TV Al-Ekhbariya on Friday, the country closed the Al-Haram mosque in Mecca and Al-Masjid al Nabawy in Medina to foreign pilgrims and traditional tourists from some 25 countries to stop the spread of the virus.

Coronavirus: Facebook, Google Staff To Work From Home

The managements of Facebook Inc and Google have urged their San Francisco Bay area employees to work from home to minimize the risk of spreading Covid-19.

Earlier, Facebook had announced that its Seattle office be shut down after one of its contractors got infected.

Facebook said it is “strongly recommending that all Bay area employees and contingent staff work from home starting Friday.”
