Soldier Kills 20 In Shopping Mall In Shooting Rampage

A Thai soldier has gone on a shooting spree in Korat city, Nakhon Ratchasima, north eastern Thailand, killing no fewer than 20 people.

Police were searching for the soldier, who was reportedly armed with an assault rifle and is holed up inside the Terminal 21 shopping centre.

Reports identified the soldier as Sgt. Jakkrapanth Thomma.

Police said that he stole a Humvee vehicle from his army base and then went on a shooting rampage around the city. Jakkrapan later went inside the Terminal 21 shopping mall and started shooting shoppers.

Court Won’t Unfreeze Foreign Accounts Belonging To Abacha

The Supreme Court, yesterday, declined a request by family members of the late Head of state, General Sani Abacha to unfreeze accounts belonging to him and other members of the family in foreign countries.

The accounts, which are in banks in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Jersey, Liechenstein and Luxembourg, were frozen following mutual judicial assistance agreements entered with the countries by the Nigerian government during the administration of the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo, in 1999.

Dissatisfied with the government’s action, the Abacha’s family dragged the federal government to court to reverse the said directive.

Pandemonium As Explosion Rocks Ado Ekiti

There was pandemonium in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Saturday as an an explosion rocked the Old Government Secretariat area of the city, with the people fleeing for their lives.

The effect of the explosion, according to information, which occurred around 7.05am, was felt as buildings located about two kilometres away shook to their foundations.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said its team is partnering with relevant Nigerian authorities to carry out checks at all key entry points into the country to prevent importation of Coronavirus.

PDP Postpones Edo Council Congresses Over A Court Order

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has postponed the conduct of Local Government Congress in Edo State scheduled for today following a high court restraining order. The Edo State High Court in Ekpoma, had on Thursday, restrained the PDP from conducting the local government congresses pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
