Iran Says It’s Unstoppable After Satellite Launch Fails

Iran said it “successfully” launched a satellite Sunday but failed to put it into orbit, in a blow to its space programme. But Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said the country was unstoppable.

” We have more Upcoming Great Iranian Satellites”, Jahromi said.

The attempted launch of the Zafar — “Victory” in Farsi — comes days before the 41st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and crucial parliamentary elections in Iran.

Reports: Trump Mulls Slashing Foreign Aid

US President Donald Trump will propose cutting billions of dollars in U.S. foreign aid in his fiscal 2021 budget while seeking an increase in funds to counter developing economic threats from China and Russia.

Trump, a Republican, sought in his budget proposal last year to slash foreign aid but faced steep resistance from Congress and did not prevail.

His latest budget, which will be released on Monday, is a blueprint for his spending proposals that is unlikely, again, to be passed, particularly in an election year.

Federal Govt Sensitises Artisanal Miners In Zamfara

The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development has said that the country was losing 80 percent of revenue that would have accrued from the solid minerals sector, to illegal mining.

Mr Abunuma Samuel, the ministry’s Plan Officer, stated this while speaking to newsmen in Maru, Talata-Mafara Local Government in Zamfara, on Sunday.

Samuel spoke to newsmen after sensitising artisanal miners in Maru.

The federal government had, in April 2019, announced a ban on mining in Zamfara and its environs.

Accident Claims Lives Of 6 Returning From Pilgrimage

The Osun Police Command on Sunday confirmed the death of six persons involved in a road accident that occurred along Eripa-Otan Ayegbaju road, Boluwaduro Local Government of Osun.

According to the Osun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Folashade Odoro, the lone accident happened at about 11 am on Sunday when the bus lost control and ran into a ditch in Eripa.

FIIRO DG Was Not Awarded A PhD Certificate, ICPC Reveals

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says the Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Chima Igwe, has not been awarded a PhD degree.

The anti-graft agency made this known in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, on Sunday in Abuja.

Igwe has been under ICPC investigation for claiming to have secured a PhD at the Universite d’Abomey Calavi, Republic of Benin, but has no certificate to show for it.
