Manchester City Banned From European Club Competitions

UEFA has banned Manchester City from all European club competition in 2020/21 and 2021/22 after being found to have committed “serious breaches” of the association’s club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

The reigning Premier League champions have also been fined 30m euros (£25m).

According to Uefa, the decision is subject to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Manchester City say they are “disappointed but not surprised” by the “prejudicial” decision and will appeal.

Shekau Proposes Swap Deal To Free Chibok Girls

The leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, has given condition for the release of the remaining Chibok schoolgirls in captivity.

In a video the Boko Haram leader released thursday, a day after President Muhammadu Buhari visited Borno State, he said the schoolgirls would be freed if the federal government should release the sect members in detention.

Senate Demands Probe Into Auno Killings

The Senate thursday passed a motion seeking a probe into the killings in Auno, near Maiduguri, where suspected Boko Haram insurgents killed some stranded travellers, numbering about 30.

The demand was part of the conclusions reached after considering a motion by Senator Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State.

Mr Garba Magaji, the General Manager (GM), Bauchi State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), on Friday said 3 million people practise open defecation in the state.

Magaji disclosed this at a one-day sensitisation and partnership meeting organised for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Coordinators and Community radio personnel in Bauchi.

He said statistics have shown that about 3 million people practise open defecation, while out of 10,000 communities, 6,000 of them practise open defecation with 4,000 using toilet facilities.

5 Dead In Bangladesh Tourist Boat Mishap

At least five people have died after a tourist boat capsized in south-eastern Bangladesh on Friday, rescuers said.

The boat carrying nearly 30 tourists overturned in Kaptai Lake while it was on way to the Sublang waterfall.

It was travelling from Rangamati district headquarters, located nearly 200 kilometres south-east of the capital Dhaka, said Ratan Nath, an official at the Fire Service and Civil Defence department.

He said his team retrieved the bodies of five people and rescued the survivors from the lake, which is the country’s largest artificial body of water.
