Boko Haram Gunmen Sack Nigerian Village

Hungry gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents attacked Kwarangilim village in Borno State on Tuesday.

The assailants were said to have invaded the village in Chibok Local Government Area of the state, in search of food to loot.

They also set houses ablaze while villagers were forced to escape to nearby bushes as the attack lasted for hours.

FIFA Cancels Paraguay Meeting, Opts For Video Conference

FIFA will hold the next meeting of its decision-making Council by video-conferencing from its Zurich headquarters, the global football body said on Tuesday.

It is not going to be at Asuncion in Paraguay as originally planned.

The decision was taken “at the request of several members”, FIFA said in a short statement.

It however added that members who wished to attend the March 20 meeting in person were still welcome.

Jurors in ex-Hollywood titan Harvey Weinstein’s high-profile sex crimes trial ended their first day of deliberations Tuesday without reaching a verdict in the case seen as a watershed in the #MeToo movement.

Vitoria Guimaraes Release Statement On Racist Abuse

Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes on Tuesday launched their own investigation and released an anti-racism video after FC Porto striker Moussa Marega was subjected to racist insults at their stadium.

Marega was insulted during a league game on Sunday.

Vitoria said in a statement that racism was a “problem of national dimension”.

The club added that the problem was one from which government entities “cannot distance themselves with simplistic declarations of selective rejection and censorship.”

Political and sports authorities, including the league’s organising body Liga Portugal, had earlier condemned the incident, while the police began an investigation on Monday.

WHO Urge As China Virus Death Toll Nears 1,900

 

Nearly 1,900 people have now died and more than 72,000 others infected by the virus in China, with hundreds more cases in some 25 countries.

The situation remains dire at the epicentre, with the director of a hospital in the central city of Wuhan becoming the seventh medical worker to succumb to the COVID-19 illness.
