Somalia: AU Trains 200 Somali Police To Improve Security

The African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) said on Friday it has trained 200 more Somali police officers, who will maintain law and order in Hirshabelle State in the central part of the country.

Yuyi Mwala, AMISOM police coordinating officer for the state, said the police officers will soon graduate from Jowhar Police Academy as part of stabilization efforts in the Horn of Africa nation.

SA: St Albans Prisoner Dies After Stabbing Warden 6 Times

 

A prisoner died and an official was injured in an incident at St Albans Correctional Centre in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed the incident in which a detainee attacked and stabbed an official at least six times.

“The offender had to be forcefully restrained. As a result of the incident, both offender and official were hospitalised. The official is in a stable condition,” he said.

However, the detainee died as a result of injuries he sustained during the incident.

Lassa Fever: Kaduna Records New Case, Four Deaths

Kaduna State government has said that a new case of Lassa fever has been recorded.

The 40-year-old man is now receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Control Centre (IDCC)

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Mohammed-Baloni, in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that four of the patients had died.

She said that two victims out of the eight confirmed cases on admission in hospitals have been successfully treated.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the recent attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Garkida, Adamawa State.
