Coronavirus: Kaduna Sets Up Emergency Center

The Kaduna State Government has set up an Emergency Operational Centre (EOC), to respond to any outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (COVID -19) in the state.

The state Commissioner of Health, Dr Amina Baloni, in a statement on Saturday in Kaduna, said the development was sequel to the confirmation of the first case of COVID -19 in Lagos on Thursday.

The Federal Ministry of Health had on Thursday announced that the first case of coronavirus was discovered in Lagos.

Killings: US, UK, France, Others Attack Russia, Syria

Russia and Syria are under fire from western countries in the UN Security Council over the killing of 33 Turkish soldiers in Syria on Thursday.

The soldiers died in an attack by Russia-backed Syrian government forces in the northwestern province of Idlib.

At an emergency meeting of the council in New York on Friday, the United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, Belgium and Estonia condemned the attack.

Dominican Republic, Indonesia, South Africa, Vietnam, Tunisia and Niger demanded immediate ceasefire.

U.S. ambassador, Kelly Craft, described the attack as senseless and barbaric, adding that Turkey had America’s support to “respond in self-defence’’.

Some ex-Militant leaders from the nine states of the Niger Delta region have described as “expected” and “commendable” the sack of the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Dokubo.

They said the sack by President Mohammed Buhari, showed the present administration has the interest of the region at heart.

Buhari, in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, had also ordered that a Caretaker Committee be set up to review the programme and take over its running henceforth.

Obasanjo Carpets Buhari, Says Nigeria May Fall To Pieces

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership of Nigeria.

Obasanjo condemned the current state of affairs in his speech on Saturday at the Frederick Fasehun 1st Memorial Lecture.

Fasehun was a Yoruba leader and founder of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC).

Obasanjo stated that Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians on the basis of freedom, equality, equity, justice, fairness, peace, security, cooperation, mutual dignity, respect, shared values and shared prosperity.

“If these factors are removed, Niagara falls to pieces. But for now, we can still make hay while the sun shines”, he warned.

Dog Tests Positive For Coronavirus In Hong Kong

As humans throughout the world grapple with the widespread outbreak of the novel coronavirus, a pet dog has been found to have a “low level” of the virus, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong’s agriculture, fisheries and conservation department said in a statement Friday.

Dogs, cats and other mammals owned as pets by confirmed coronavirus patients must now undergo a 14-day quarantine, the spokesperson added.

The department said the dog, whose owner was infected with coronavirus, tested “weak positive” for COVID-19 virus after its nasal and rectal samples were collected for testing earlier this week.
