Covid-19 – Nairobi Ranked 6th Among Africa’s Risk Cities

Nairobi is now ranked sixth among African cities whose populations are at high risk of being infected with Covid-19.

This is emerging even as government bureaucrats continue to allow in travellers from 18 high-risk cities in mainland China.

This is according to a spatial analysis by experts in population mapping at the University of Southampton.

The University’s WorldPop team has found that Bangkok in Thailand is currently the city at the highest risk of infection, based on the number of air travellers predicted to arrive there from the worst affected cities in China.

Rwanda: Women Take Up 55% Of Cabinet Seats

Women now constitute 55 per cent of cabinet seats, up from 52 per cent. The development follows Wednesday’s cabinet reshuffle which saw eight new faces, including four women, join cabinet.

Members of cabinet have also increased from 27 to 29 following the creation of two new positions at the level of state minister.

The new cabinet line-up includes 16 females.

The constitution requires that either gender must be represented at any decision-making organ at no less than 30 per cent.

Imo State Government To Build Homes For Muslims

The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has promised to extend his government’s housing programme to the Hausa and Muslim Community in the State.

Uzodimma made the promise on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, when a delegation of the Imo State Muslim Council paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Owerri, the State Capital.

He also said that his administration will provide electricity to parts of the Muslim settlements lacking electricity.

Repentant Terrorists To Enjoy Foreign Education – Senate

The proposed National Agency for the Education, Rehabilitation, De-radicalisation and Integration of Repentant Insurgents in Nigeria’ will get its funding from the Universal Basic Education Commission and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

Other sources of funding include- donations, grants, annual subventions from the government and counterpart funding from the six North-East states of Borno, Bauchi, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba and Gombe.

Rebecca, the mother of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi schoolgirl kidnapped by the Boko Haram insurgents, said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), called her seven months after the abduction of her daughter. The President, he said, assured her of Leah’s quick release.

Sen. Ajibola Bashiru (APC-Osun Central) has disclosed that senators in Nigeria earn less than ₦1million per month.

Bashiru made the disclosure on Thursday while speaking on the sideline of a programme organised by the Correspondents Chapel of the Kwara Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Court Reinstates Impeached Kogi Deputy Governor Achuba

A Kogi High Court sitting in Lokoja has belatedly declared as illegal, null, void and of no effect, the removal of Elder Simon Achuba as the Deputy Governor by the state House of Assembly .

The Court also declared that the subsequent nomination of Chief Edward Onoja and his inauguration as the Deputy Governor as replacement for Achuba, did not follow due process.

Netflix, which has set up an office in Nigeria, has unveiled its first Nigerian original – a six-part drama series from Vaya director, 45 year-old Akin Omotoso.
