Chinese Swimmer Sun Yang To Learn CAS Fate Over Doping

Chinese Olympic swimming champion Sun Yang will learn on Friday whether he faces a possible eight-year ban for missing a drug test, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said.

CAS said it would announce the decision at 0900 GMT on Friday.

The triple Olympic gold medal-winner, who served a doping suspension in 2014, is accused of refusing to provide bllod and urine samples when drug testers visited his home in China in September in 2018.

A vial of his own blood sample was smashed with a hammer during the testing session, but Sun was acquitted by swimming’s ruling body …

Virus: US, South Korea Postpone Joint Military Exercises

The US and South Korean militaries on Thursday postponed forthcoming joint exercises as the Asian country announced its biggest increase in coronavirus cases to date.

The decision to delay the training was made after Seoul declared its highest “severe” alert level over the virus, Combined Forces Command said, adding the postponement was “until further notice”.

The United States has 28,500 troops in South Korea to protect it against the nuclear-armed North, many of them based south of Seoul at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek — Washington’s biggest overseas military facility.

An Australian boy with dwarfism whose distress from bullying became a viral video will donate hundreds-of-thousands of dollars in donations to charity rather than a trip to Disneyland.

Kenya: Government Bans Slaughter Of Donkeys

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and Cooperatives has banned the slaughter of donkeys in the country.

Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya gave the four existing slaughterhouses a one-month notice and revoked their licences.

He directed them to transform and start handle other animals such as cattle, sheep goat and chicken.

Mr Munya said the ban comes against backdrop of dwindling of donkey numbers occasioned by rampant theft of donkeys in a syndicate that has benefited slaughterhouse owners at the expense of citizens.

Ethiopia says it will not send representatives to the final round of negotiations on the use of the Nile waters, in a move likely to delay a binding agreement.

The deal is to be signed between Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt.

We Will Prosecute Violators Of Ranching Law – Gov Ortom

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has warned that the State will prosecute violators of its ranching law.

Ortom in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, said it became necessary to remind pastoralists moving into Benue State with their livestock that there is a law in force that placed a permanent ban on open grazing of animals.

He reiterated that no individual or group of persons is above the law and whoever wants to do livestock business in Benue State should remember that there is a law in place which regulates animal husbandry.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil, chapter, has faulted the recent increase of students’ registration fees.

It described the decision as a clear act of insensitivity.

Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis has cancelled a Mass as he catches an unspecified illness after meeting with people with Coronavirus on Wednesday.

The clergy has remained in Rome due to the illness.

Access bank plc has directed that all Diamond Bank cheques will no longer be valid for transaction at the end of this month.

Banks across the country have given notice to customers that as from 27th of Febuary, Diamond bank cheques will not be accepted for clearing at the inter bank market.

One of such notice said “This is to inform you that Access Bank Plc has directed that effective March 1, 2020, Diamond Bank cheques will no longer be valid for clearing.
Consequently, from February 27, 2020, Diamond Bank cheques will not be accepted at any of our branches.

Another Man Jumps From Cab Into Lagos Lagoon

Another young man, who is yet to be identified, on Wednesday’s mid-night leapt from an Uber car and jumped into the Lagos lagoon.

This is coming barely 10 days after a man alighted from a cab and jumped into the Lagos Lagoon.

The man jumped into the Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge at midnight, sources in the Rapid Response Squad told reporters on Thursday.
