Iran Accuses Foreign Media Of Using Virus To Scare Voters

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday accused foreign media of trying to use a deadly outbreak of coronavirus in Iran to “discourage” people from voting in a general election.

“This negative propaganda began a few months ago and grew larger approaching the election and in the past two days, under the pretext of an illness and a virus, their media did not miss the slightest opportunity to discourage people from voting,” said Khamenei.

“(Our enemies) are even opposed to any election by the Iranian people,” the leader was quoted as saying on his official website.

Coronavirus Puts ‘Fragile’ Global Recovery At Risk

The deadly coronavirus epidemic could put an already fragile global economic recovery at risk, the IMF warned Sunday, as G20 financial chiefs voiced “real concern” over its economic ripple effects.

Global growth was poised for a modest rebound to 3.3 percent this year, up from 2.9 percent last year, International Monetary Fund chief Kristalina Georgieva said after a two-day meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Riyadh.

But the projected recovery was “fragile”, she warned, amid global alarm over the spread of the new virus across multiple countries even as Chinese authorities lock down millions of people …

Late Niang Winner Fires Rennes Back Into Third

M’Baye Niang scored a double, including an 89th-minute winner, as Rennes edged out Nimes 2-1 on Sunday to retake third place from Lille in Ligue 1.

Senegal international Niang helped Julien Stephan’s side recover from a goal down and end a three-match winless streak in the league, while snapping lowly Nimes’ four-match winning run.

Rennes are now one point clear of last season’s runners-up Lille, who beat rock-bottom Toulouse 3-0 on Saturday, in the race for the third and final Champions League spot.

Marseille sit second, eight points ahead of Rennes but 10 points adrift of runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain, …

Arsenal Revival Gathers Pace As Aubameyang Downs Everton

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang boosted Arsenal’s hopes of gate-crashing the race to reach the Champions League as his double clinched a 3-2 win against Everton on Sunday.

For much of a troubled season Arsenal have been written off as also-rans in the battle to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition.

But, recovering from the wreckage of the Unai Emery era, their revival under Mikel Arteta is gathering pace.

Rocked by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s first-minute goal at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal equalised through Eddie Nketiah and took the lead thanks to Aubameyang.

Richarlison levelled for Everton to cap a dramatic first half, but Gabon …

Airports on Spain’s Canary Islands were closed again Sunday after a sandstorm hit the archipelago, airport authorities said.

Some flights briefly resumed Sunday morning before Spanish airport operator AENA was forced to close all eight airports in the Canaries — the three in Gran Canaria and Tenerife as well as five others.

Men Gradually Taking Over Beauty Business In Jos

In what seems like an unusual turn, men in Jos are gradually taking over the beauty business.

Years ago, the business of making women beautiful was considered a job exclusively for the female gender.

It was generally the belief that only a woman knows how best to make another woman look beautiful.

Hence, jobs like fashion designing, hairdressing, braiding, manicure and pedicure and other related tasks were seen as no-go-areas for males.

Before now, any male found doing such businesses was seen as eccentric, gay or an unserious person.

It is no longer what it used to be, in …
