China Expels Wall Street Reporters Over ‘Racist’ Headline

China on Wednesday ordered three reporters from The Wall Street Journal to leave the country over what Beijing deemed a racist headline, in one of the harshest moves against foreign media in years.

The United States protested what it called an affront to press freedom, one day after it tightened rules on Chinese media organisations that it considers state propaganda.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said a Journal opinion piece — titled “China is the Real Sick Man of Asia” — had a “racially discriminatory” and “sensational” headline, and slammed the newspaper for not issuing an official apology.…

Passengers Leave Japan Virus Ship

Hundreds of relieved passengers disembarked Wednesday from a coronavirus-stricken cruise ship in Japan after being given the all-clear, but health officials said 79 new cases had been detected.

With 621 positive cases, the Diamond Princess is easily the biggest cluster of infected people outside China, and Japan has faced mounting criticism for its quarantine arrangements as passengers disperse across the world.

The disease has now claimed more than 2,000 lives in China and spread panic worldwide.

Trump Offered Pardon To Assange If He Denied Russia Leak

US President Donald Trump promised to pardon WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange if he denied Russia leaked emails of his 2016 election rival’s campaign, a London court was told on Wednesday.

Assange’s lawyer Jennifer Robinson said in a document that Trump relayed the offer through former US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, the UK’s domestic Press Association news agency reported.

Mozambique: National Mourning For Mario Machungo

Maputo — The Mozambican government announced on Tuesday that two days of national mourning will be held to mark the passing of former Prime Minister Mario Machungo, who died in Lisbon on Monday.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers (Cabinet), the government spokesperson, Deputy Justice Minister Filimao Suaze, said the national mourning will begin at zero hours on Sunday, and last until 24.00 on Monday. During the mourning period the national flag will fly at half mast throughout the country. The official funeral of Machungo will be held on Tuesday.

The consignment of Chinese fish is transported by ship for over 8,000 kilometres, a journey that takes days. Once it lands at the port of Mombasa, it is trucked for another 1,000 kilometres before it lands in depots in Kisumu.

Magu Blasted For Saying Coronavirus Caused By Corruption

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has come under attack for saying he strongly believes coronavirus is caused by corruption.

Magu had at the passing out parade of 281 cadets of the EFCC Detective Inspector Course-5, at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, on Tuesday said that Corruption is the biggest tragedy to humankind.

He was quoted as saying, “And I strongly believe that even the coronavirus is caused by corruption,”

Coronavirus, now known as COVID-19, broke out in Wuhan China in December 2019.
