Customs Seize 256 Bags Of Contraband Rice Hidden As Beans

The Adamawa/Taraba Command of the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) has impounded a trailer load of 256 50kg bags of contraband rice, each bag hidden in bigger bags packed with beans.

Customs Area Comptroller, Kamardeen Olumoh, who addressed newsmen at the headquarters in Yola on Tuesday, said the trailer was impounded and brought to the headquarters with the rice and beans content from where it was seized along the Yola-Mubi road.

He said the rice was hidden and presented as beans to deceive Nigerian Customs personnel who have been enforcing federal government’s policy against importation of rice.

Dickson’s Appointees Storm Bayelsa G’House Over Salaries

Some appointees of Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, on Tuesday, barricaded the entrance to the Government House in protest of non payment of salaries.

The appointees, who head the 24 Rural Development Areas (RDAs), assumed office on October 15, 2019. They say the protest was to demand their December 2019 and January 2020 salaries.

NAN reports that the protesters, who carried placards with inscription such as “Dickson, pay our two months salaries”, “We are workers and not slaves” and Give us our right,” among others.

Crisis: Bomb Explodes At Party Secretary’s House In Edo

A bomb on Tuesday exploded around the residence of the Secretary to the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Lawrence Okah.

Addressing journalists in Benin, Okah disclosed that he was lucky to be alive, following the incident which occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Also speaking, a chieftain of the party and governorship aspirant, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu warned against turning the state into a war zone.

The APC governorship aspirant urged the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, and President Muhammadu Buhari to help resolve the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party.

Fire Razes Central Market In Osun State

A part of Atakumosa Central Market, Adeti in Ilesha, Osun State, was gutted in fire in the early morning hours of Tuesday destroying goods worth millions of naira.

The inferno which started around 1 am affected several shops located at the entrance of the market but was later subdued through the combined efforts of the police and firemen.

34 Suspected Commercial Sex Workers Arrested In Jigawa

The Jigawa State Shari’a Enforcement Command (Hisbah), says it has arrested 34 suspected commercial sex workers and confiscated 147 bottles of beer in Kazaure Local Government area of the state.

The Hisbah Commander in the state, Malam Ibrahim Dahiru, made disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Dutse.

Dahiru disclosed that the suspects were apprehended in a raid by Shari’a enforcement agents at Gada area of Kazaure.

Illegal tactics used by Nigeria’s security agencies to toture and kill detainees have been uncovered in an investigative documentary by the BBC Africa Eye.
