Not More Than 3 SIM Cards For A Nigerian – NCC

The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to review SIM card registration and usage in a bid to bar Nigerians from owning more than three mobile telephone lines.

It is expected that telecommunication companies will block unregistered SIMs from functioning on their networks in line with the directive which came in the wake of increased killings and kidnapping for ransom and general insecurity.

The NCC was also directed to ensure that the National Identity Number (NIN) becomes a prerequisite for Nigerians registering new SIM cards, while for foreigners use their passports and visas. Already registered …

Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro Okays Bill Opening Land To Mining

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday introduced a controversial bill that opens up indigenous lands, many of them in the Amazon, to mining, agricultural activities and hydraulic energy production.

The far-right president described the measure, which still needs approval in Congress, as a “dream” while indigenous leaders have labeled it a “genocide bill.”

The measure, which has not yet been published, allows both indigenous and third-party developers to participate in the new land development.

FG to Stop Fish Importation In 2022

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Sabo Nanono, wednesday disclosed that the federal government will stop fish importation in 2020 and encourage local fish production.

Speaking while receiving a delegation from the National Fish Association of Nigeria (NFAN) led by its National President, Dr. Gabriel Ogunsanya in Abuja, the minister stated that time had come for Nigeria to look inward to tap into the huge potential in fisheries and aquaculture for local consumption and export.

The Osun State Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has approved the immediate release of the sum of ₦500 million for the payment of the entitlements of retired workers enrolled under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The Head of Service of the state, Dr. Festus Olowogboyega, made this known in a statement issued yesterday in Osogbo, the state capital.

N’Assembly Begins Consultation With Executive Over PIB

President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, wednesday disclosed that the National Assembly has commenced consultation with the executive arm of government on a new version of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) to be introduced in the ninth National Assembly.

Lawan disclosed this during a meeting with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who paid a visit to his office at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu of the Federal High Court in Lagos, yesterday adjourned further proceedings till June 29, in the bankruptcy suit filed by Ecobank Nigeria Limited to recover an alleged debt of N4.1 billion from the Chairman of Honeywell Group, Dr. Oba Otudeko. Justice Onyetenu further adjourned the case yesterday at the instance of the two parties.

Obaseki Govt Demolishes Oshiomhole Ex-Aide’s Hotel

The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led Edo Government on Wednesday, demolished T. Latifa Hotel belonging to Mr Tony Adun, also known as Kabaka, located at Ugbor area of Benin City.

Adun is a former aide of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.

The government had stated that the property violated the building laws of the state and that it sits across a road in the Ugbor-Amagba axis of Oredo Local Government Area.

A socio-political group to monitor and promote projects of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in the South East has been inaugurated in Enugu state.

Land Cannot Be Revoked Through Radio Announcement – Court

The Kogi State High Court of Justice have told the two defendants in a civil land matter, Kogi State Town Planning and Development Board and the State’s Ministry of Agriculture that revocation of land cannot be done through mere radio announcement without recourse to the owner of the land.

This was the judgement given by the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, on Wednesday, in a land dispute, with suit number HCL/76/2013 which was instituted in 2013 by one Olorunfemi Mohammed against the two agencies and the Attorney-General of the state, who was the third defendant.
