9 Soldiers Face Court Martial In Sokoto

Acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Brigadier General Aminu Bande, yesterday inaugurated a panel at Giginya Army Barrack Sokoto to prosecute nine soldiers over alleged commission of various offences.

In his inaugural speech, Bande ,said the conduct of military trials under the Armed Forces is to deal with matters that pertain directly to the discipline, efficiency and morale of the military.

Nigeria: Insurgents Likely Receiving Foreign Govt Backing

There is a possibility that foreign governments are funding insurgents in the country, Babajimi Benson, Chairman, House Committee on Defense said on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting held with service chiefs.

Last week, amidst growing concerns of insecurity in the country, the House of Representatives called for the resignation of the military chiefs, but had at first summoned them.

Kenya: Nation Lost 83 People In Terror Attacks In 2019

 

Kenya lost 83 people in 2019 as a result of terror attacks, a 20 per cent increase from 2018 when such deaths stood at 56.

This is according to a new report released by the Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies (Chrips).

The data, which is derived from Chrips Terror Attacks and Arrests Observatory report, also shows that 42 security officers lost their lives as a result of direct attacks by the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.

Furthermore, 26 civilians were killed during the period under review.

If all the remaining aspects of the negotiations go as planned, Qatar Airways could purchase 49 per cent stake in RwandAir, becoming a minority shareholder in the national carrier.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker confirmed on Wednesday, February 5 in Doha that the gulf airline was negotiating the acquisition of the sizable stake in RwandAir, considered one of Africa’s fastest-growing airlines.

“It is a 49 per cent stake that we are negotiating for in RwandAir,” Al Baker revealed to the press on the margins of the CAPA Qatar Aviation Summit in Qatar.
