Emeka Ihedioha has said he has pity for those celebrating the verdict of the Supreme Court, which sacked him as governor of Imo State.

Speaking with members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his Abuja residence on Saturday, Ihedioha said the judgment was more about the country’s democracy than himself.

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday sacked Ihedioha as Imo State Governor and ordered the swearing-in of Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nigerians Warned To Stop Drinking Garri

The Director of Public Health, Enugu State, Dr Boniface Okolo, has cautioned Nigerians against the consumption of cassava flakes, otherwise known as garri to avoid contacting Lassa fever.

Okolo, who gave the warning in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Saturday in Enugu, said the rats that caused the disease were mostly in contact with Nigerian most popular staple food ‘garri,’ a cassava product.

He added that it was necessary to discourage consumption of soaked garri since it did not require boiled water.

Lekan Are, Ex-Chairman Of Press, Kakanfo Inn Is Dead

Lekan Are, a foremost Nigerian agronomist, businessman, philanthropist and Chairman of University Press Plc, is dead.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Are was 86-years-old.

Mr Toye Akinrinola, the Public Relations Officer of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, confirmed Are’s death to NAN on Saturday.

He said that Are died after a brief illness at the High Dependency Unit of UCH at about 12.30am on Saturday.

Are, born on Dec. 2, 1933, was a former General Manager of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.

Kano State Sharia Police known as Hisbah have invited an American Woman, Janine Sanchez and her Kano-based lover, Isah Sulaiman to a meeting at their Panshekara Office.

Janine met her lover on Instagram and decided to trace him to Nigeria all away from America to marry him.

Following recent alert by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on the use of paracetamol tablets in food preparation, some Nigerians have expressed shock and disappointment.

Eco: Nigerian Traders Send Message To Buhari Govt, ECOWAS

The National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), has advised the Federal Government and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to address corruption and regional cross border trade challenges before adopting ECO Currency.

Mr. Ken Ukaoha, NANTS President, gave the advice on Saturday, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

According to him, the general problem facing the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) must also be addressed.

Ukaoha said that ECOWAS and Nigeria must seek to address the myriad of challenges facing regional cross border trade such as intimidation, harassment of traders, bribery and corruption.

CAN Defends Kwara Govt Despite Ban On Religious Activities

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State chapter, insisted State Government has not banned religious activities in public schools.

The defence was issued on Saturday despite government order on such activities to stop.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Fatimoh Ahmed, had on January 14, issued a statement that no religious organisation is permitted to go to public schools for preaching or engaging in any religious activities during the morning assembly.

The statement added that prayers should be said silently on the morning assembly across public schools in the state.
