Gov Ikpeazu Reacts To Death Of Abia LG Chairman

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed profound shock at the news of the sudden death of the Transition Committee Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Hon. Maurice Onyekachi Okoro.

THISDAY had reported that the Transition Committee Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia, Mr Onyekachi Okoro, is dead

He was also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.

Okoro was said to have slumped at a private residence in Umuahia around 1pm on Thursday and died before he could get medical help.

The PDP Chairman Mr Anthony Nwankwo, confirmed the incident to newsmen

US House Of Reps Decides On Iran, Gives Trump Ultimatum

Members of the lower legislative chamber in the US on Thursday approved a nonbinding resolution aimed at restraining President Donald Trump from taking military action against Iran.

The House of Representatives voted against Trump’s ability to attack Iran in the future without congressional approval.

The House reached the resolution following wide criticism over Trump’s decision to order the killing of Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani in Iraq.

Before ordering Soleimani’s killing, the Congress was not consulted by the Presidency.

The House, acting on the War Powers resolution, also directed Trump to terminate military operations against Iran except for self-defence

Plateau Attack: Buhari Reacts As Gunmen Kill 12 At Mangu

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the gunmen attack on a community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Wednesday, 8th January, 2020.

Why We Launched New Security Outfit In South West – Fayemi

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Thursday, said that the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) otherwise know as “Amotekun” was set up not to undermine the power of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Buhari Makes New Appointment

President Muhammau Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the board of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Ademola Seriki is now the board Chairman with effect from January 7.

Seriki, a Lagos indigene, served as Minister of State for Interior under the Jonathan administration.

The development was contained in a statement Thursday night by Ibrahim Haruna, Deputy Director, Press in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

It noted that the Minister, Adeniyi Adebayo, made the announcement while presenting appointment letter to new CAC Registrar-General, Garba Abubakar.

Gunmen Abduct 4 Seminarians From Catholic School In Kaduna

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Wednesday night attacked the Good Shepherd Catholic Major Seminary, situated in Kakau, along Kaduna-Abuja road and made away with four seminarians.

Soleimani’s: What Happened In US Senate On Wednesday

The US Parliament was presented with a classified briefing on the killing of Iranian army Chief, Qassem Soleimani on Wednesday by top administration officials.

The Democrats and Republicans were on ground to hear the briefing.

President Donald Trump was praised by his Republican for ordering Soleimani’s killing.

However, the Democrats said they were not convinced the “imminent threat” the administration claimed in its justification existed, Al Jazeera reports.

Iran Sends Message To US Amid War Threats

Iran has reportedly sent words to the United States that it doesn’t want war and would not carry out further attack on American targets.

CNN reports that Iran initiated contact through at least three back channels, including Switzerland and other countries.

Buhari Overrules Power Minister, Mamman Again

President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled the dismissal of Marilyn Amobi as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Limited (NBET).

Sale Mamman, Minister of Power, had asked Amobi to step down with immediate effect. He also ordered her probe.

NUC Scraps Mass Communications Degrees

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has phased out Mass Communication Degree in Nigeria institutions.

With the development, there will be no more Mass Communication as a degree programme in universities in Nigeria.

The NUC said it has unbundled Mass Communication into seven separate degree programmes to meet present demand and this takes effect from 2020 admissions into Nigerian universities.
