Microsoft Seizes Web Domains Used By North Korean Hackers

Microsoft said Monday it obtained a court order allowing it to seize web domains used by North Korean hacking groups to launch cyberattacks on human rights activists, researchers and others.

The US technology giant said a federal court allowed it to take control of 50 domains operated by a group dubbed Thallium, which tricked online users by fraudulently using Microsoft brands and trademarks.

“This network was used to target victims and then compromise their online accounts, infect their computers, compromise the security of their networks and steal sensitive information,” said Tom Burt, Microsoft’s vice president for customer security and trust.…

Chinese Factory Activity Remains Steady In December

China’s factory activity was in expansion territory for a second straight month in December amid a thaw in a trade war with the United States, official data showed Tuesday.

The closely watched Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), a key gauge of activity in the country’s factories, was at 50.2 in December, posting the same gain as the previous month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The reading — slightly above the 50-point mark that separates growth and contraction every month — beat a forecast of 50.1 by analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News.

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei said Tuesday that “survival” was its top priority after announcing 2019 sales were expected to fall short of projections as a result of US sanctions.

Huawei, a global leader in telecom networking equipment has been effectively banned by the United States from working with American firms on the grounds that it poses a national security threat -– an accusation the company has consistently denied.

Minimum Wage: Govt, NLC Agree On Payment Commencement

The Katsina State Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have reached agreement on the payment of the new national minimum wage, with its salary consequential adjustments to public workers in the state.

Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, Secretary to the state government and state NLC Chairman, Mr Hussaini Hamisu, reached the agreement according to a joint statement signed in Katsina.

Archbishop Of Lagos Raises Alarm Over Boko Haram

Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Rev. Alfred Martins, on Wednesday lamented that jihadist groups, Boko Haram, ISWAP and other terror gangs were holding Nigeria to ransom.

He appealed to the Federal Government to intensify its counter-offensive to crush the groups and restore normalcy to end fear among citizens.
