Ortom Reacts To Attack On Jonathan’s Home

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has condemned the recent attack on the residence of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke, Bayelsa State by gunmen yesterday

Ortom in a statement made available to THISDAY described the attack as a national shame.

THISDAY had reported that on Tuesday, a soldier on guard duty was killed after unknown gunmen attacked the courtyard of Jonathan situated close to the bank of the river at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

Wike: Dickson Plans To Defect To APC To Avoid EFCC Arrest

Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has accused his Bayelsa counterpart Seriake Dickson of planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) to avoid arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for corruption at the end of his tenure.
“Dickson concluded plans to join the APC…(and) colluded with these people so that EFCC will not arrest him when he leaves Government,” Wike said in a statement by his media aide Simeon Nwakaudu.

Both governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but have been at loggerheads since the party lost the Bayelsa State governorship election to the APC in November.

Kanu Nwankwo Loses ‘Daughter’

Former Super Eagles player, Kanu Nwankwo Wednesday announced the death of one of the first beneficiaries of his heart foundation turned daughter, Enitan.

“Why why why one of Kanu heart foundation gone,” Kanu said on Twitter.

“My daughter gone gone gone I can’t believe this R I P Eniton God knows all.”

Kanu’s wife Amara Kanu on Instagram said the 21-year-old died of complications from malaria.

Sambo Dasuki Speaks On Rumoured Feud With Buhari

Nigeria’s former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki has said he has no feud with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dasuki, who was the country’s NSA until May 2015, was detained for more than four years by the Nigerian government over allegations of illegal possession of arms and misappropriation of $68 million arms fund.

He denied any wrongdoing.

The government refused him to release despite multiple court orders to that effect, fuelling rumours that Buhari was using security agencies to settle old scores with Dasuki.

Five Die In Christmas Road Tragedy

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Niger said on Wednesday that five people were killed in an accident along Bida- Kutigi road of Bida Local Government Area.

NAN reports that similar accident occurred on Tuesday at Bonu village along Lambata-Minna road resulting to loss of 5 lives and injuring of several others.
FRSC Sector Commander, Joel Dagwa, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Wednesday.

Social Media Bill, Attempt To Muzzle Free Speech, Says CDD

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has described the debate on the ‘Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulation Bill 2019 (SB 132),’ known as the Social Media Bill as an attempt to muzzle free speech.

According to a statement signed by the Director, CDD, Idayat Hassan, the legislation which has passed a second reading in the Senate, is an attempt to use the legislative process to muzzle freedom of expression.
