Leonard Leads Clippers Over Lakers, 76ers Impress With Win

Kawhi Leonard scored 35 points as the Clippers rallied to beat the Lakers 111-106 in an all-Los Angeles NBA showdown on Wednesday.

The Western Conference heavyweight clash was part of the NBA’s five-game Christmas extravaganza, which saw the Philadelphia 76ers make a statement with a 121-109 victory over the league-leading Milwaukee Bucks.

Cameroonian big man Joel Embiid scored 31 points as the Sixers ran roughshod over the league’s top-rated defense.

Embiid pulled down 11 rebounds and played a key role in neutralizing Milwaukee’s reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was held to 18 points on eight-of-23 shooting.

Alli Caps Spurs Fightback To Sink Brighton

Dele Alli got Tottenham back on track as the England midfielder capped a gritty escape act with the late winner in Thursday’s 2-1 victory against Brighton.

Jose Mourinho’s side were in danger of a second successive Premier League defeat when Adam Webster headed Brighton into a shock lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But Harry Kane equalised after the interval and Alli finished off a flowing Tottenham move in the closing stages to erase the bitter taste of last weekend’s acrimonious London derby loss to Chelsea.

“I’m very happy with second half. I’m not saying players were wrong but we …

Arsenal Off To A Slow Start As Chelsea Falter Again

Mikel Arteta got off to an underwhelming start as Arsenal manager with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth as Chelsea slumped to another shock home reverse, losing 2-0 to Southampton, on Boxing Day.

Carlo Ancelotti had a more positive impact on his Everton bow as Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s brilliant diving header earned a 1-0 win over Burnley.

Chelsea’s defeat allowed Tottenham to move back to within three points of the top four as they came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

The top two clash later when Leicester host Liverpool hoping to close …

Celtic Maintain Five-Point Lead Ahead Of Old Firm Clash

Celtic extended their winning run in the Scottish Premiership to 11 games with a 2-1 victory at St Mirren on Boxing Day to maintain a five-point lead over Rangers at the top of the table.

Steven Gerrard’s men have a game in hand over the Scottish champions and kept up their title challenge with a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock ahead of Sunday’s clash between the two Glasgow giants at Celtic Park.

Celtic were more comfortable winners in Paisley than the scoreline suggests as first half goals from Callum McGregor and James Forrest put them in command.

St Mirren goalkeeper …

Southampton Give Chelsea Fresh Case Of Home Blues

Southampton bolstered their hopes of top-flight survival with a 2-0 victory at Chelsea on Thursday as the Blues lost consecutive home games in the Premier League for the first time since 2011.

Frank Lampard’s young side kicked off on the back of a tactically inspired victory away to his mentor Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur that banished temporarily the bad memories of the home defeat by injury-ravaged Bournemouth.

But this Boxing Day clash saw another south coast side in Southampton enjoy success at Stamford Bridge.

Michael Obafemi put the Saints ahead in the 31st minute with the second Premier League goal …

Arteta Sets High Standards For Arsenal

Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to match his high standards after the Spaniard’s first game in charge ended in a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Thursday.

After a bright start from the visitors, the ills of Arsenal’s season that have seen Arteta handed his first senior managerial role were obvious when Dan Gosling put Bournemouth in front on the half hour mark.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once again rode to his side’s rescue to level, but the Gunners could not make the most of their dominance of the ball after the break against a Bournemouth side that had lost six of their last …

51-Year-Old Man Returns Bag With $17,700

A 63-year-old man in Germany had a very Merry Christmas indeed after an honest finder returned the backpack he had forgotten under a tree – filled with presents and 16,000 euros ($17,700) in cash.

The 51-year-old finder alerted police after stumbling upon the bag near the centre of the western city of Krefeld shortly before midnight on Christmas Eve.

Officers were able to quickly identify the owner and reunite him with the backpack and its precious contents.

The man who found the bag “refused a finder’s fee, because it was Christmas,” Krefeld police wrote on Facebook.

This Is How COP 25 Failed The World

“I am disappointed with the result of COP 25. The international community lost an important opportunity to show increased ambition on mitigation, adaptation and finance to tackle the climate crisis”

– Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General

With the kind of noise made around climate change this year, especially as the weather became more aggressive and extreme, many would have thought that the 2019 annual climate change conference would naturally become an ambitious one – an opportunity for world leaders to show resolve in halting climate change before it gets out of hand. Alas, that did not happen. The only difference …

Why Nigeria Does Not Need A Rubber Stamp Legislature

More than ever before, Nigerians need to start to pay attention to the survival of its democracy, if they truly desire that system of government. As harmless as it seems to be, the statement credited to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, concerning the 9th National Assembly’s preference for being a malleable institution should agitate the minds of Nigerians on the safety of their future in the hands of politicians who are misguided as to their very essence.

To be sure, no one expects the two arms of government to be at each other’s throat perpetually; …
