US, UK In Row Over Diplomat’s Wife, Cyclist Death

British prosecutors’ authorisation to charge the wife of a U.S. diplomat with causing the death of a young motorcyclist has sparked a row.

British 19-year-old Harry Dunn was killed on Aug. 27 after Anne Sacoolas’ car allegedly crashed into his motorcycle in Northamptonshire in central England.

Dpa reports that Sacoolas was interviewed by police but she subsequently left the country, arguing that she was immune from prosecution.

Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said extradition proceedings had begun as they announced the go-ahead for charges to be brought for causing death by dangerous driving.

The Enugu State Executive Council (EXCO) has awarded contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of more urban and rural roads, in keeping with the state government’s commitment to infrastructural development in the state.

Smart Adeyemi Gets Dino Melaye’s Senate appointment

The Senate has appointed Sen. Smart Adeyemi (APC-Kogi West) as Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation.

Similarly, Sen. Ibrahim Danbaba (PDP-Sokoto South) was appointed Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs.

Adeyemi replaced Sen. Dino Melaye, who was head of the committee before the court upturned his election.

Melaye was defeated at the November 16 Kogi rerun election.

The Senate on Friday approved ₦278 billion for the 2020 Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) budget, against the ₦232 billion earlier presented by the FCTA, NAN reports.

Chairman of the Senate Committee, Sen. Abubakar Kyari (APC Katsina) said the committee, in carrying its oversight duties on the budget proposal, identified critical areas of need for development to ensure improved living standards of inhabitants of FCT.

Defendants in the case of the collapsed Synagogue Church Guest closed their case on Friday with the cross-examination of their last witness in a Lagos High Court sitting at Igbosere.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday ordered stoppage of work at Omi-Adio Railway Station under construction on Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line over compromise of standards by the contractor.

EFCC Gets Court’s Permission To Detain Adoke For 14 Days

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) friday gave approval to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to detain former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke SAN, for 14 days.
The order was to enable the anti-graft agency conclude its investigation of Adoke over corruption allegations.
Adoke returned to the country Friday, after five years in self-exile, only to be arrested on arrival by the EFCC.
