World’s Biggest Cricket Stadium Takes Shape In India

The world’s biggest cricket stadium, with space for 110,000 spectators, is taking shape in India and is likely to host its first international match early next year.

The new stadium in Ahmedabad, built at a cost of around $100 million, will seat more fans than Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground which can accommodate around 100,000 spectators.

According to reports, the Sardar Patel stadium is expected to host its first match in March with an exhibition game between an Asia XI and a World XI as the inaugural game.

Strycova Mulls One Last Wimbledon Before Retiring

Barbora Strycova said Friday she was pondering the doubles title defence at Wimbledon before retiring from the sport, a move she has lately been suggesting.

“I’d love to play at Wimbledon again, it’s the greatest tournament for me and if I get another chance to play there I’ll be super happy,” the 33-year-old world doubles number one told reporters in Prague.

The energetic Czech made the Wimbledon semi-finals in singles last year, her best singles result ever at a grand slam, and took the doubles honours together with Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei.

England opted to limit the workload of some of their World Cup winners when they announced the squads on Friday for one-day and T20 series in South Africa in February.

Wayne Rooney has admitted his frustration at being forced to wait until January to play for Championship side Derby.

The former Manchester United and England captain is unable to make his debut for the Rams until January, after signing an 18-month contract following his departure from Major League Soccer side DC United.

The US Congress on Thursday formally recognized the 1915-1917 murder of up to 1.5 million Armenians as genocide.

The Senate’s passage of the repeatedly stalled resolution is expected to anger Turkey, which denies there was a genocidal mass murder, insisting the Armenians died as a result of World War I.
