• Abia residents lament forfeiture of assets to FG

Reactions poured in yesterday in the wake of the 12-year jail term bagged by a former Abia State governor Orji Uzor Kalu for fraud. For the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO), the conviction was proof of President Muhammadu Buhari’s sincerity in fighting corruption, even as some residents in the state described the forfeiture of assets to the Federal Government as unfair.

A State Of Emergency On Sexual Violence

I have often mentioned in my Loud Whispers columns that I love watching television dramas. One of my favourites is Law and Order – Special Victims Unit. It is a spin-off of the Law and Order television series, based on adventures of the New York Police Department (NYPD). The SVU is an elite squad of NYPD officers, trained to identify, track and seek justice for victims of sexual crimes such as rape and sexual assault, child abuse, trafficking, kidnapping and so on. Each episode deals with a new case and story line, so you are mostly spared the headache of

To some givers, beggars are humans and deserve kindness, care and support. But others think the other way round. Begging is simply a way of life, a lucrative business culture that shortcuts the hardship of the present times and exploits the rich of their excesses.

Not surprising, the numbers of beggars in cities and towns in Nigeria are on the increase. From Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu to Kano, the figures are alarming, the situation is unbecoming. There are, of course, factors that drive up the figures, namely the rural- urban pull that throws up unskilled and unemployable persons to urban …
