Gunmen Abduct Two Lecturers In Kaduna

Two lecturers have been kidnapped by gunmen in Mahuta community of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The two lecturers whose names were given as Dr. Adamu Chinoko and Dr. Umar Chinoko are said to be biological brothers, teaching at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and Kaduna Polytechnic, respectively.

It was learnt that Adamu was abducted on Thursday night and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N2 million and a new motorcycle.

Umar who was said to have gone to deliver the ransom on Sunday was also abducted by the bandits after collecting the ransom .

Court Disqualifies APC’s Bayelsa Deputy Gov. Candidate

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday disqualified the Bayelsa State deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Biobarakuma Degi from participating in the election.
Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled that Degi’s nomination form contained false information.

In his judgement, he said Degi-Eremienyo gave false information in relation to his educational qualifications and went ahead to depose to an affidavit to correct the discrepancies. The judge held that all his documents bore different names.

2020 Budget Report To Be Ready Nov. 26, Says Lawan

The report of the 2020 budget proposal presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on October 8 will be ready by November 26, the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan, has said.
Lawan, who spoke at plenary on Tuesday, expressed hope that the Appropriation Committees of the two chambers would be ready with the budget report on the specified date.
He directed the Senate committee on Appropriation headed by Senator Barau Jibrin, to galvanise action towards laying the budget report before the Senate at plenary on November 26.

Visa To Acquire Stake In Nigeria’s Interswitch

Visa Inc plans to acquire a “significant minority” stake in payments platform Interswitch, the Nigeria-based company said on Tuesday.

Interswitch did not provide financial details in its statement.

Senate May Approve Death Penalty For ‘Hate Speech’

A law to establish a National Commission for the Prohibition of Hate Speech has passed first reading on the floor of the Senate. The Bill is being sponsored by the the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

The 8th Senate tried without success to pass the Bill in 2017. The same Senator Abdullahi had sponsored it.

Swine Flu Kills Fourth Person In Vietnam In 2019

A 37-year-old Buddhist nun in Vietnam’s central highlands has died of swine flu, bringing the total number killed by the disease this year to four, authorities said on Tuesday.
The patient initially experienced mild fever and fatigue before growing malnourished.

She was then taken in for a private health check-up, the Kon Tum Centre for Disease Control said in a statement.

She was admitted in the hospital in Kon Tum City on Nov. 3, for intensive treatment but died on Nov. 8, the statement said.

Rat Holds Up Flight In India For 12 Hours

A domestic flight in India was delayed for nearly 12 hours after a rat was spotted scampering around the aircraft, news reports and officials said on Tuesday.

Air India flight AI-952 was preparing for take-off from the southern city of Hyderabad for Vishakapatnam, a coastal city, early on Sunday, when the rodent was seen running around the cabin, the Times of India daily reported.

Helpless passengers for the flight were forced to stay put at Hyderabad airport all through the day until airline staff managed to get rid of the rat, the report said.

A 30-year-old suspected internet fraudster, Victor Ojionu, who specialized in hacking into credit cards belonging to Nigerians and foreign nationals, have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for stealing over ₦500 million within the space of five years.

African countries will next year host projects worth $67 billion in critical sectors spanning energy, agriculture, housing, rail and telecoms infrastructure among others.
President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, who disclosed this at the opening press conference of the African Investment Forum (AIF) in Johannesburg said the amount was spread across 59 boardroom transactions for private sector projects.

He described the current edition of the AIF as representing a significant improvement on the 2018 meetings in which $48billion transactions were agreed upon.
