Senate Pledges to Support AMCON’s Debt Recovery Drive

The Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Uba Sani, yesterday said the National Assembly will join forces with the executive arm of government to wedge war against obligors of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

Sani, who is the senator representing Kaduna Central, made the declaration at the commencement of the 2019 retreat for members of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, which began in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Edo: Ize-Iyamu Leads Supporters Into APC

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2016 Edo State governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, yesterday, led thousands of his political associates and supporters to dump the party and join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benin.

This followed a motion moved by the former House of Assembly speaker, Bright Omokhodion and seconded by Festus Ebea, Emma Momoh, and Tawa Idubor.

The defectors, in their motion, cited internal wrangling and leadership failure in the PDP for their action.

Meanwhile, Edo chapter of Road Transport Employers’ Association  of Nigeria (RTEAN) has pledged support for the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Unending Tussle Over PDP Reps Caucus Leader

There seems to be no end in sight to the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus of the House of Representatives. The PDP caucus in the House has been fictionalized since the inception of the Ninth assembly.

Robbers Attack UBA In Ekiti, Policeman, Girl Killed (Photo)

A police officer attached to a branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Oye-Ekiti has been shot dead in a robbery attack on Thursday.

A girl, believed to be about five years old, was also killed by the gunmen while on her way back from school.

The gunmen made away with money from the bank’s vault and stole from the customers.

Kano: Court Nullifies Creation Of Four Additional Emirates

A Kano State High Court on Thursday nullified the creation of four additional first-class emirates and their emirs by the state government.

The presiding judge, Justice Usman Na’Abba, said the law that provided for the creation of the emirate was not properly enacted, based on the provision of section 101 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

Tokyo 2020 organisers on Thursday unveiled the $523 million venue for swimming, diving and artistic swimming that will seat 15,000 fans for the Olympic and Paralympic Games next year.

Construction is 90 percent complete at the four-storey Aquatics Centre and is due to be finished on schedule by the end of February, officials said.
