European Tour Golfers To Compete In Shorts For First Time

Male golfers will be allowed to wear shorts instead of trousers this week for the first time in a European Tour event due to high temperatures expected at an event in South Africa.

Temperatures of 37 degrees celsius (98.6 fahrenheit) are forecast for the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday during the 2020 season-opening Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Competitors will have to contend with 38 degrees celsius heat on Saturday before the temperature drops to 31 degrees for the final round on Sunday.

Pitino Returns To Panathinaikos Until Summer Of 2021

Former NBA coach Rick Pitino has returned to Panathinaikos and signed a contract until the summer of 2021, the Athens club announced on Tuesday.

“I’m not making that much money,” said the 67-year-old former coach of the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks but, he added, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the team owner “gives me respect and control and at my age it is more important than dollars”.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ Brett Brown was appointed the new coach of Australia’s basketball team Wednesday, replacing Andrej Lemanis as they target a gold medal at next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

Koebi Kuhn, a former Switzerland international and manager, died on Tuesday in Zurich at the age of 76 after a long illness, former FIFA president Sepp Blatter told AFP.

Calgary Flames coach Bill Peters is under investigation after being accused of using racial slurs against Nigerian-born player Akim Aliu a decade ago, the National Hockey League confirmed on Tuesday.

The NHL said in a statement Peters was being probed after Aliu said he was subjected to racist language during the 2009-2010 season while playing for American Hockey League (AHL) side Rockford IceHogs.

“The behavior that has been alleged is repugnant and unacceptable,” the NHL said in a statement. “We will have no further comment until we have had an opportunity to look into the matter more thoroughly.”

An Australian grandmother who claimed she was tricked into carrying drugs into Malaysia after falling for an online romance scam Tuesday won her final appeal against the death penalty and will be freed.
