Buhari, Kalu Condole Atiku Over Aide’s Death

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief Whip of the Senate and former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, have expressed sadness over the demise of a close aide of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Alhaji Umar Pariya.

The president’s condolence message is contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in Abuja, yesterday.

Adesina quoted President Buhari as saying: “I received the news of the death of your close aide, Alhaji Pariya, with a heavy heart. It is very touching to lose such a personal aide of many years.

President Muhammadu Buhari, 19 governors under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) and other stakeholders are scheduled to attend the third Federal Government-Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) parley on policy synergy in Jos on November 25.

Power Crisis: Senate Rejects Ban On Generator Importation

Senators shut down a motion seeking to temporary ban generator importation into the country. 

The motion which was an additional prayer moved by Francis Fadahunsi  (Osun East) was aimed at curtailing generator importation as a way of making the government sit up to address the nation’s power problems.

Fadahunsi was making his contribution to a  motion moved by  Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu North)  titled: “Addressing Nigeria’s Power Problems.”  Utazi had said Nigeria, with a population of 200 million and an annual growth rate of 2.6 percent per annum, was the seventh most populous nation on earth.

House Passes New Bill For Smooth Transition Of Power

The House of Representatives has approved six months jail term and N10 million fine or both for any person who frustrates the smooth transition of power from one civilian government to the other.

The House yesterday passed a bill seeking to make a President-elect resume in the Presidential Villa to understudy the outgoing President ahead of inauguration.

2019 Budget: House Directs NDDC to Suspend All Payments

The House of Representatives has directed the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to suspend all payments with immediate effect, except for personnel cost for allegedly operating the 2019 fiscal year without a budget approved by the National Assembly.

The directive followed the adoption of a motion on the urgent need to investigate the failure and refusal of NDDC to submit its budget estimates for 2019 to the National Assembly for approval brought by Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Finance Bills, yesterday, suffered a major setback following a face off between the Senate and House of Representatives committees on finance.

Committee members from the House of Representatives boycotted the public hearing held by the Senate Committee on Finance.

Daily Sun learnt that the aggrieved lawmakers were alleging that they were sidelined by the Senate Committee on Finance in the run up to the hearing.

They also claimed that funding of the hearing was shrouded in secrecy.

Crocodile Smile 4: Quit Or Be Crushed, Army To Criminals

The Nigerian Army has commenced Exercise Crocodile Smile 4 in Lagos and Ogun states and has also handed down and immediate quit order to criminals operating in these states to vacate the areas or be crushed.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, who gave the warning said Exercise Crocodile Smile 4 operatives will not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with criminals, including armed robbers and pipeline vandals within the Lagos and Ogun axis.
