Do We Need Unviable 32 States?

A report the other day that only four of the 36 states in the country are viable is disturbing and demands urgent action of the governments and people of Nigeria to cause a change in this negative situation. According to the report credited to a non-governmental organisation, (NGO) BudgIT, the viable states are Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Kano.

Don’t Vest Powers Of Prosecution On School Management –NANS

Sex For Marks in tertiary institutions and the Sexual Harassment Bill going through the second reading in the Senate, The education Report sought the views of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

While NANS welcomed the Bill and suggested an amendment to the section which vested the powers of prosecution on the school management, ASUU insists the nation does not need such new laws to tackle the sex scandal rocking tertiary institutions. Rather the union insist that there are existing laws to apply against the scourge.

Wizkid Wins SoulTrain Songwriting Award For Brown Skin Girl

 Afropop superstar, Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid has won SoulTrain’s Ashford and Simpson Songwriters’ award.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that he won the award at the 2019 ceremony held on Sunday in Las Vegas.

The ‘Ojuelegba’ singer earned the award for his collaboration with Beyonce, Blue Ivy Carter and SaiNt Jhn on the sensational song of Beyonce’s ‘Lion Heart: The Gift’ album.

Wizkid shares the award with other credited songwriters including, Beyoncé Knowles, Carlos St. John, Adio Marchant and Shawn Carter.

Sports Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare, has rapped chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the inability of the country’s national teams to make major impact in major international tournaments this year.

EFCC Collaborates With Interpol To Extradite Adoke

The federal government is working with Interpol to extradite the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN), to face charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), THISDAY’s investigation has revealed.

Olympics: Tokyo Finishes Building Stadium For 2020

Construction work has been completed at Tokyo’s National Stadium, set to be the centrepiece of next year’s Olympic Games, the site’s owners said on Tuesday.

The Japan Sports Council said the final work had been completed on Thursday with just the final quality and safety checks remaining before the stadium opens next month.

It will be officially unveiled on Dec. 21, with the Emperor’s Cup soccer final being the first sporting event to be held there on New Year’s Day.

Dismissed Cop Arraigned For Murder Of Kolade Johnson

Dismissed police inspector, Ogunyemi Olalekan, was on Tuesday at an Ikeja High Court remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons after his arraignment for the alleged murder of Kolade Johnson, a 35-year-old man at a viewing center in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olalekan, 45, during his arraignment pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

Following his plea, Mr Yhaqub Oshoala, Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, requested that Olalekan who has been incarcerated at the Ikoyi Prison since his arrest, continue to be remanded at the facility.

Undergoing ultrasound scans too often may lead to foetus deformity among pregnant mothers or cause a thermal effect on the patient’s body tissue, experts have warned.

Janet Akinmoladun, a consultant radiologist at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, spoke while training doctors and paramedics on carrying out emergency ultrasound procedures at the 661 Nigerian Airforce Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos state.

The training, which held at the Sam Ethnan Airforce Base, was organized by the GTAK Health Alliance for Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) alongside the military hospital and saw a team of experts teach and showcase medical technologies.
