Road To Douye Diri’s Community Flooded

Electoral officials, journalists conveyed by canoes

Road to the polling unit of Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Candidate, in Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, was flooded forcing Electoral observers and journalists to access the area by canoes.

Residents heading for Diri’s Unit 4 ward 6 in Sampou, Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, also patronised canoe paddlers, who collected N50 each from them to convey them to the unit.

Kogi Polls: Voting Begins With Massive Turnout In Kogi West

Voting has commenced in the Kogi Governorship and National Assembly election in the western senatorial district of the state, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
INEC officials arrived as early as 7a.m. at various polling units visited by our correspondent in Mopamuro, while accreditation and voting commenced at exactly 8a.m.

The polling units visited by NAN were Orokere Ward 06 (PU= 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007 and 008), Aiyedayo Ward 08 (PU= 004 and 003 unit) and Aiyeteju Ward 09 (PU= 001, 002, 003 and 004 unit.

2023: No Sign That APC, PDP Will Consider Igbo – Elliot Uko

President and Founder of Igbo Youth Movement (IYM), Elliot Ugochukwu Uko has said that there is no sign that Nigeria’s two big parties, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are seriously considering to present an Igbo as candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking with VINCENT KALU, Uko, who is Secretary of the Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA), and a member of Southern Leaders of Thought, noted that an Igbo man as president would serve as a soothing balm and a unifying gambit to heal the land.

Appeal Court Verdict: Okowa Lauds Judiciary, Thanks Deltans

Delta Governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has commended the Judiciary for the “sound judgment” by the Court of Appeal, which affirmed his victory in the March 9, 2019 Governorship election in the state.

His main opponent in the polls, Chief Great Ogboru of All Progressives Congress (APC), had approached the appellate court to upturn the decision of the Election Petitions Tribunal which dismissed his petition against Okowa’s victory.

The court on Friday in Abuja, endorsed the verdict of the tribunal and dismissed the appeal in its entirety for lacking merit.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed disappointment over the late arrival of election materials to his polling unit, 39, in Otuoke, ward 13 in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

The Nigerian Army says its troops have again successfully dislodged Boka Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at Malam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno.

Wike Releases ₦132m for Payment of Corps Allowances

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has announced the release of ₦132 million for the payment of monthly allowances for corps members serving in the state.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Governing Council of the National Youth Service Council (NYSC) at the Government House Port Harcourt yesterday, Wike said the payment process has been activated by his administration.

Borders To Remain Shut, Customs Boss Insists

The Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) yesterday foreclosed any prospects of reopening the country’s borders which had been shut by the federal government since August, to curb smuggling and dumping by neighbouring countries.
