World Diabetes Day: Expert Advises Parents To Reduce Sugar

Dr Nwaome Nwaogu, a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist, advised parents to moderate sugar and refined carbs given to children to avoid being diabetic.

Nwaogu, a member of the Ask the Paediatrician Foundation, an NGO, gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday, in commemoration of the World Diabetes Day, annually celebrated on Nov. 14 to raise awareness about diabetes, its prevention, complications and care for people living with the condition.

Diri, PDP Mourn Death Of Party Members In Nembe

The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, has noted with dismay the brutal killings of no fewer than eight members of the party by thugs suspected to be from the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a botched rally in Nembe Ogbolomabiri on Wednesday.

Senator Diri, in an interview with reporters in Yenagoa, condemned the violence and prayed for repose of the souls of those who were murdered by the armed thugs.

Among the dead was the driver of the OB Van of Radio Bayelsa, Mr Simon Onu, who was gunned down beside his vehicle.

The House of Representatives has enjoined the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to review its ban on the supply of petroleum products to border communities in the country.
Adopting a motion sponsored by Sada Soli under matters of urgent importance at the plenary presided by the deputy speaker, Ahmed Wase, yesterday, the house declared that the measure contravened the provisions of the Customs and Exercise Act.It mandated its relevant committees to engage the Minister of Interior, Minister of State for Petroleum, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation

Controversy Trails $1bn Ogoni Cleanup Project

A leading international advocacy organisation on environment, Environmental Rights Action (Friends of the Earth), has faulted the ongoing $1 billion Ogoni cleanup exercise in the Niger Delta. It said the lack on seriousness on the part of the government is a major threat to its completion.

Executive director of the organisation, Godwin Uyi Ojo, while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, said the agency of government handling the project, Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), is yet to define clear parameters on how it intends to execute the project, despite the availability of over $100 million at its disposal.

OVER the course of penultimate weekend, news came of the massacre of no fewer than 13 students of the Kogi State University, KSU, Ayingba, Kogi State, by alleged cultists.
