Ex-Niger Gov Aliyu Debunks Leaving Empty Treasury

A former Niger State governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has said that he did not leave an empty treasury for his successor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, contrary to claims by the new administration.
Aliyu also said he was not owing civil servants salaries as at the time he left office on May 29, 2015.
The former governor made the clarifications in Minna on Tuesday as he marked his 64th birthday with friends and well wishers at his private residence.

Nigerian rapper Burna Boy is set to perform at a concert in SA later this month after promising to never set foot in the country again. Local musicians and event organisers have objected to Nigerian rapper Burna Boy’s inclusion at an anti-xenophobic concert, claiming the star incited hatred with his comments on SA.

Enugu LG Chairmen Have No Reason To Fail, Says Ugwu

Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Chief Alex Ugwu, said on Tuesday that council chairmen had no reason to underperform as they were fully in charge of their council’s finances and allocations.

Ugwu stated this during a Good Governance Tour by a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He said the council had received over N1.9 billion of Federal Allocation from December 2017  to date.

Supreme Court Orders NNPC To Pay ₦8.14bn In Damages To Firm

The Supreme Court,yesterday, upheld its earlier judgment, ordering the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to pay $22.6 million (8.1billion) in damages to BCE Consulting Engineers over a failed Consultancy Service Contract.

The NNPC through its counsel, approached the Supreme Court seeking a review of the July 5, 2019 judgment over an alleged error of facts.

Judicial Review is a procedure provided under the Supreme Court Civil Procedure Rules for review of extant judgments.

The counsel argued that the court did not hear their preliminary objection and that their cross appeal was dismissed with hearing.

NIS Deploys MIDAS At Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has successfully deployed Migration Information Data Analysis System (MIDAS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

MIDAS is an IT-based Border Management Information System (BMIS) that collects, processes, stores and analyses migrant information in real time across the border network, and provides a strong statistical base for security, migration policy and planning.

The installation, which was commissioned by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregesola, is a product of collaborative effort of NIS, the Danish government and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

e-Customs: NCS Targets ₦1.679tr Revenue In 2020

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali on Tuesday disclosed that the 2020 revenue target set for the service by Federal Government stands at ₦1.679 trillion as encapsulated in the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework approved by the National Assembly.

Ali made the revelation in Abuja at the 2020 budget defence with House of Representatives Committee on Customs.

According to him, the figure consists ₦1.5 trillion for federation revenue, while non-federation stands at ₦178.62 billion.

When compared to the 2019 revenue target, the 2020 figure is higher by N741.43 billion (44.17%).

 All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it has directed its lawyers to appeal the Abuja Federal High Court ruling on the candidacy of the deputy-governor in the forthcoming Bayelsa November 16 election, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.

The APC said the judgement delivered on Tuesday cannot stand the scrutiny of a superior court.

According to the publicity secretary of Bayelsa APC, Doifie Buokoribo, the court did not consider the weight of evidence before it in delivering the judgement.

The Namibian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Humphrey Geiseb, has stated that there is no Nigeria in a Namibian prison.

The High Commissioner described Nigerians living in Namibia as good ambassadors, doing well in various fields of human endeavour.

Pastor Issues 24-Hour Ultimatum To Unseal Church

Senior Pastor, Christ Holy Church (Nation Builders) located at Uwalaka Street, Umuahia, Rev. Adolphus Ohamara, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Abia State government to unseal his church as it was strange to shut down a place of worship for default in payment of taxes or levies.

The Ministry of Physical,  Urban Planning and Infrastructural Development, last Thursday, sealed the church, among other houses in Umuahia for defaulting in the payment of N30,000 being levy for  data capturing of buildings.
