Iheme-Nwosu: Lawyers Boycott Courts In Edo, Imo

The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Benin and Owerri branches, have  embarked on boycott of courts over the kidnap of  Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme of the Court of Appeal, Benin Division.

Justice Ihem-Nwosu of the court of Appeal was abducted along Agbor-Benin Expressway on October 31 by armed men who killed her police orderly.

In a statement issued in Owerri and signed by Damian Anosike (Chairman) and Justin Osuebi (Secretary), Imo NBA described her abduction as unacceptable, regrettable, condemnable and barbaric.

Iran Nuclear Deal: Uranium Enrichment To Resume Underground

The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran unveiled advanced centrifuges at Natanz

Iran will begin enriching uranium at its underground Fordo facility on Wednesday, rolling back another commitment under a 2015 nuclear deal.

President Hassan Rouhani said the step was reversible if world powers party to the accord upheld their commitments.

Enriched uranium can be used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear weapons.

This is the fourth step taken by Iran since July in response to sanctions the US reinstated when abandoning the deal.

The 2015 accord was intended to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions in return for relief from sanctions

The United States  has begun the process of withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, notifying the UN of its intention to leave, as other countries express regret and disappointment at the move.

The notification begins a one-year process of exiting the global climate change accord, culminating the day after the 2020 US election.

The US government says the deal puts an “unfair economic burden” on Americans.

The agreement brought together 188 nations to combat climate change.

There has been widespread international condemnation of the US move.

Chinese Pilot Banned From Flying After Cockpit Photo

A Chinese pilot has been banned from flying after a photo went viral showing a female passenger in the cockpit.

The photo was taken in January on an Air Guilin flight from Guilin city to Yangzhou city, state media said, but was widely shared this week – causing the airline to take action.

It shows a woman posing in the cockpit with refreshments laid out next to her.

Air Guilin said in a statement the pilot had violated air safety regulations.

A Lokoja High court, yesterday, adjourned  a case seeking to disqualify the candidate of the peoples Democratic party, PDP, Musa Wada, from contesting the election to Nov 27.

The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has upheld the election of Aliyu Wamakko as senator representing Sokoto North district.

The appellate court in its ruling dismissed the appeal brought by Ahmed Mohammed Maccido of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP).

ICAN Delists, Suspends Over 25,000 Non-Financial Members

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has delisted 14,337 non-financial members who are owing the association dues for more than three years effective from November 1, 2019.

The professional accountancy body, in a statement signed by its registrar John I. Evbodaghe, said it has also suspended 11,240 members who are owing dues covering between than six months to three years.

“Council has directed that members should be given two weeks grace period ending November 19, 2019 to further reconcile their financial status with the Institute.” the statement said.
