Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said Monday his government was working toward bringing peace to war-torn Darfur as he met hundreds of victims of the conflict who demanded swift justice.

Hamdok’s one-day visit was his first as prime minister to the devastated region, where a conflict that erupted in 2003 has left hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates Court on Monday sentenced a 30-year-old unemployed man, Sulaimon Agboola, to six months in Kirikiri Correctional Facility, Apapa, Lagos, for stoning police officers on duty.
Chief Magistrate M.O. Tanimola sentenced Agboola after he pleaded guilty to five counts of conspiracy, unlawful society, assault, breach of the peace and possession of hemp.

Tanimola, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N40, 000.

The Supreme Court on Monday struck out a referral appeal praying the court to determine the constitutionality or otherwise of the removal of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The referral appeal filed by Dr Samuel Nwawka was struck out by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who led five justices after the appellant failed to appear and was not legally represented.

Woman Found Dead In Landslide After Storm Batters France

A 71-year-old woman was found dead Monday after being engulfed by a landslide in the French city of Nice, as the south of the country counted the cost from a brutal storm.

Storm Amelie brought freak winds, downpours and monster waves to southern France over the weekend. The woman, 71, who died in her own back yard, was the only reported fatality.

The storm dropped trees on roads and railway tracks and ripped loose live electrical wires, leaving tens of thousands of people without power for hours on end, authorities said.

Health workers battling an Ebola outbreak in DR Congo have been attacked 300 times, leaving six dead and 70 wounded since the start of the year in three provinces, authorities said on Monday.
