Court Suspends Ongoing NNPC Job Recruitment

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the suspension of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) ongoing job recruitment pending determination of a suit filed by one Pelumi Olajengbesi.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Olajengbesi, a public interest lawyer, had commenced the enforcement of the fundamental rights of all potential applicants to set aside the recruitment by the NNPC on the ground that it was discriminatory. The recruitment had disqualified Nigerians above the age of 28 from applying for the vacant positions.

But Olajengbesi had faulted the age criterion, noting that it violated Section 3(e)(iv)

Brexit In The Balance As British MPs Hold Knife-Edge Vote

British MPs gathered on Saturday for a knife-edge vote on Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal for a decision that could see the UK leave the EU this month or plunge the country into fresh uncertainty.

The parliament was holding its first Saturday sitting since the 1982 Falklands War to debate the terms of a divorce agreement Johnson struck with European Union leaders Thursday.

Opposition parties and Johnson’s own Northern Irish allies have rejected the text but the prime minister and his team have spent the past 48 hours frantically trying to win the support of wavering MPs.

At least 16 buses were torched and a dozen metro stations totally destroyed.

Around midnight President Sebastian Pinera declared a state of emergency and appointed Major General Javier Iturriaga del Campo as

South Sudan’s exiled rebel leader Riek Machar arrived in Juba on Saturday in a bid to salvage a peace deal with less than a month to go until he is to form a government with President Salva Kiir.

The foes, whose falling out in 2013 triggered a bloody civil war that has left almost 400,000 people dead and sparked a major humanitarian crisis, signed a peace deal in September last year that is meant to see them reunite once again in government.

The deadline for the formation of this government, in which Machar will serve as first vice president, has …

The deterioration came on the fifth consecutive day of protests in the Catalan capital and elsewhere over a Spanish court’s jailing of nine separatist leaders on sedition charges over a failed independence bid two years ago.

As Italy’s Salvini Flexes Muscles With Rome Rally

Italy’s strongman Matteo Salvini holds a rally in Rome Saturday aimed at relaunching the Italian right and making a power grab for the capital.

Eight special trains and 400 coaches are ferrying in supporters from across the country for the “Italian Pride” demonstration, with the crowds also set for a speech from billionaire former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Salvini, head of the far-right League party, pulled support from the previous populist government over the summer in a bid to spark elections he was convinced he could win to govern the eurozone’s third-largest economy alone.

That plan failed when his former …

LaLiga: Barcelona, Atletico Chase Real Madrid

LaLiga Santander returns after the international break with Real Madrid looking to stay ahead of the pack, although chasers Atletico de Madrid and Barcelona could take over at the top in what should be an exciting weekend’s action.

Still unbeaten, LaLiga Santander pacesetters Real Madrid are at RCD Mallorca in today’s late game. Los Blancos won 5-0 on their last visit in October 2012, but an awful lot has changed on and off the pitch at Son Moix since then, thanks to the Balearic Islanders’ American owners.

Second-placed Atletico de Madrid hosts Valencia this afternoon, with Diego Simeone’s side having

Kingsley Kuku Desperate To Return Home

In his heyday as a close associate of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Kingsley Kuku, came across as an interesting personality. He was patronised by many and had a large followership, especially because he had much money to throw around as the chairman of well-funded Presidential Amnesty Programme.

However, he lost that relevance immediately his principal lost the 2015 general election. Shortly after the new government of President Mohammadu Buhari came on board, the Ondo State-born former environmental activist scampered abroad for fear of being arrested by the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
