UK: Boris Johnson Fails Again To Call Snap Election

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has again failed in his drive to call an early election, as he sought to break the political deadlock over Britain’s departure from the European Union.

A total of 299 MPs on Monday night backed Johnson’s latest bid – his third – but with opposition parties abstaining and 70 MPs voting against, the prime minister did not secure the backing of the two-thirds of the 650 MPs required by law to pass the motion.

Facebook Takes More Heat For Enabling Political Falsehoods

Facebook came under fresh criticism Tuesdayfor its hands-off approach to political speech, as a group of employees and US lawmakers called on the social network to apply fact-checking for politicians spreading misinformation.

A letter from Facebook employees urged the company to crack down on “civic misinformation,” saying the spread of debunked claims is a “threat” to what the company stands for.

“We strongly object to this policy as it stands. It doesn’t protect voices, but instead allows politicians to weaponize our platform by targeting people who believe that content posted by political figures is trustworthy,” said the letter first

“It was very peaceful. Lots of families,” he told Al Jazeera, adding they were taking part in a “cacerolazo”, a non-violent form of protest where crowds bang pots and pans.

Before long, police forcefully entered into the crowd, throwing tear gas, he said.

“There were children, babies – I was next to an old man with a walking stick” he added.

To protect those around him, Del Campo said he kicked a smoking

Chaudhuri said one of the things that surprised him when he assumed office in Nigeria was the country’s low level of revenue to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), put at eight per cent.

VAR In Premier League: Did It Make Or Mar Wolves’ Game

Question: what could make a 0-0 draw even more unsatisfying than usual? Answer: a goal being celebrated and then disallowed after a VAR review leads to enforcement of the draconian new interpretation of the handball law. Wolves felt that anguish here: first they rejoiced when Leander Dendoncker lashed the ball into the net in the 53rd minute and then, 98 seconds later, they cursed their misfortune when the referee wiped the scoreboard clean because the ball had struck the arm of Willy Boly in the buildup.

Boly could have done nothing to prevent the ball from hitting him – Dendoncker …

Alabama’s Near-Total Abortion Ban Blocked By Federal Judge

Energized by new conservatives on the US supreme court, Alabama and other conservative states have attempted to enact new restrictions on abortion in the hopes of getting supreme court justices to reconsider Roe v Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide.

A number of states attempted to ban abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected. The Alabama law went further by attempting to ban almost all abortions with no exceptions for cases of rape and incest.

Passed by the Republican-led legislature, the 2019 Alabama Human Life Protection Act would make performing an abortion at any stage of pregnancy …
