Mozambique’s Nyusi Wins Second Term As President

Incumbent President Filipe Nyusi was declared the landslide winner in Mozambique’s election this month, despite claims of widespread cheating, the electoral commission announced on Sunday.

Nyusi of the ruling Frelimo party scored 73 percent of the vote, ahead of Ossufo Momade of Renamo, the rebel group turned opposition party, with almost 22 percent, commission chairman Abdul Carimo told a press briefing.

Nyusi had been widely predicted to win, based on unofficial results from the October 15 vote, and Frelimo had already organised victory celebrations in the capital on Sunday.

“For this election, Frelimo worked hard and our candidate Filipe Nyusi

Germany’s Far-Right AfD Makes Gains In State Elections

Alternative for Germany (AfD) party more than doubled its share of the vote but failed to become the largest party in the German state of Thuringia, in an election widely seen as a bellwether of the far-right party’s growing strength in its eastern heartlands.

The AfD overtook Chancellor Angela Merkel’s slumping Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to receive 24 percent of the vote, according to exit polls by public broadcaster ARD, finishing behind socialist Linke on 30 percent, which made history by becoming the first left-wing party to win a state election in reunified Germany.

Carmakers Warm Up To Friendly Hackers At Conference

At a conference where hackers can try their hands at picking locks and discover cyber vulnerabilities in a makeshift hospital, they can also endeavor to break into the control units of cars and take over driving functions.

Those efforts at the DEF CON security convention in Las Vegas, US, at the weekend, were sponsored by carmakers and suppliers that have increasingly recognized the need to collaborate with so-called white-hat hackers, cyber experts who specialize in discovering vulnerabilities to help organizations.

Attendees who visited the car hacking site had to escape a vehicle by deciphering the code to open its trunk,

Kanye West: Jesus Is King Meets Terrible Reviews

Confronted with the task of creating songs about religion, West delivers a set that lyrically is as thin as Bible paper. As you would expect, there are plenty of assertions of his faith: “When I get to heaven’s gates / I ain’t gotta peak over,” he jerkily raps over the organ chords of Selah before the rapturous choir chants of “Hallelujah” set in.

In Closed on Sunday, he suggests turning off Instagram to spend more time praying with family, a statement that would spark significant eye-rolling from kid worshippers if they heard it coming from the church pulpit. A …

Power cuts expected to affect more than two million people have begun in California as fires continue to surge.

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) initiated the precautionary blackout – expected to be the largest in state history – due to forecasts of extreme winds, which it said could damage facilities and cause new fires.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said the outages were “unacceptable”.

Some 90,000 people have been ordered to evacuate towns in northern California.

The new evacuation order encompasses a huge area of Sonoma County, where the Kincade Fire has already burned through 25,455 acres (10,300 hectares) of land.…

“Never before has Umbria, with its 884,000 inhabitants, been such an important thermometer for national politics,” the Sole 24 Ore daily said in the run-up to the vote.
