Nigeria’s New Rating By World Bank Commendable – Analyst

A Public Affairs Analyst, Mr Carl Umegboro has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the recent 15 places rise rating of Nigeria in the latest index from the World Bank.

Umegboro, a lawyer and Associate, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, who gave the commendation in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, said Nigeria was now ranked 131 moving up 15 places from its last ranking by the World Bank.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Word Bank Doing-Business 2020 appraisal, looked at most improved places to do business and which economies improved the most.

NBA Condemns Police Detention Of Attorney

The Borno Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Saturday condemned the detention of a lawyer, Mr Sadiq Kachalla, by police in Maiduguri.
The Chairman of the association, Mr Muhammad Maigana, described the detention of one of its members as “unconstitutional, unlawful and illegal”.

Maigana disclosed that the lawyer went to the GRA Police Station in Maiduguri metropolis on Friday, to secure the release of his client in detention at the post.

Warner Bros. has moved its live-action hybrid comedy “Tom and Jerry” forward by four months to Dec. 23, 2020, The Hollywood Reporter, reports.

The cat and mouse film directed by Tim Story, was initially slated for release on April 16, 2021. The studio said Friday that it will fill that slot with a yet-to-be titled “event” film.

Off-Duty NYPD Police Officer Busted For Attacking His Wife

An off-duty NYPD housing cop assaulted his wife during an argument inside their Brooklyn home, police said.

Cops from the 83rd Precinct in Bushwick took Police Officer Manuel Cantor-Alonso into custody about 2 a.m. Saturday after his wife called 911 and said her husband had attacked her, police said.

The two were in the middle of an argument when the 38-year-old officer pushed her to the ground and kicked her, said cops. The woman was not seriously harmed.

Cantor-Alonso, a 12-year NYPD veteran, was charged with assault. His arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court was pending Saturday.
