Governor Umahi Swears In 14 New Permanent Secretaries

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Monday swore in 14 new Permanent Secretaries for the state’s Civil Service.

The governor, at a ceremony held at the Government House, Abakaliki urged the appointees to discharge their duties creditably in line with the vision of the state.

According to reports from the inauguration, the 14 new Permanent Secretaries were in addition to the 12 who are already discharging their duties effectively.

The new permanent secretaries include Mr. Christian Achi, Ministry of Health; Mrs. Patricia Okiri, Ministry of Budget, Planning and Research and Mr. Ogbonnaya Otta, Ministry of Internal Security.

A businesswoman has narrated to a Magistrate’s court in Ojo, Lagos State how she slept with her creditor to pay off a ₦1.1 million loan.

Ejioma Ahibafu, 49, told Court that she was taken to a hotel on three occasions where she slept with her creditor as part of the loan repayment.

The businesswoman, Ahibafu, who sells bags of rice, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and stealing brought against her.

Gunmen clad in military camouflage violated the peace in Pegi resettlement community when they kidnapped nine persons during a brazing attack on the community, located in the Kuje Area Council, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Members of the community, who confirmed the attack, said the kidnappers struck about 8 p.m. on Monday night.

Labour Gives Government 21 Days To Pay New Minimum Wage

Organised labour yesterday gave the three tiers of government October 31 as deadline to pay the ₦30,000 new minimum wage.

Following series of stalemated talks, both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had last week issued an ultimatum urging federal government to conclude negotiations on the consequential adjustment on the new minimum wage on or before October 16.
