Two children were beaten to death in India for defecating in the open, police said Thursday, underlining the violence sometimes unleashed to enforce Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship cleanliness drive.

Former French president Jacques Chirac, a centre-right career politician who served as head of state from 1995 to 2007, has died, his family told the press on Thursday. He was 86.

Police accuse lawyer of plot to kill Kashamu

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday arraigned a lawyer, Bayo Adedokun, before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Igbosere for allegedly threatening to kill Senator Buruji Kashamu and Alhaji Muniru Ogunleye over a land dispute.
