Cross River earmarks $7m for mechanised farming

The Cross River State Government has earmarked the sum of $7 million for the promotion of mechanised farming in the state.

The state governor, Professor Ben Ayade, made the disclosure on Wednesday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Feed the Future Project between the state government and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at the executive council chamber of the Governor’s Office, Calabar.

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Wednesday survived a legal challenge of his victory in the 2019 senatorial election for Abia South district as the National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal (panel 1) sitting in Umuahia affirmed his fourth term mandate.

Abaribe was declared winner of the February 23, 2019 poll but his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Chris Nkwonta, was dissatisfied with the outcome of the poll and filed a petition at the tribunal seeking to nullify Abaribe’s mandate.

Mayor of Johannesburg says no need to apologise to Nigeria

Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba has said it “was not necessary” for South Africa to apologise to Nigeria for the recent xenophobic attacks.

“No, there is nothing for me to apologise about,” Mashaba said on CNBC Africa’s Political Capital on Tuesday.

“What do you expect me to really apologise for?”

Nigerians and other foreign nationals were attacked earlier in September by irate mobs of South Africans who blamed them for spiking unemployment and drug-related crime rates.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday named his point man for hostage situations, Robert O’Brien, to replace his hawkish national security advisor sacked last week.
