Over 300 Nigerians return from South Africa today

Over 300 Nigerian returnees from South Africa are arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos today.

The first of the two batches would touch down at 1:00 p.m.

Beleaguered British Prime Minister Boris Johnson vowed to continue his attempts to strike a new Brexit deal with Brussels, after losing yet another vote on Tuesday during a chaotic parliamentary session.

Johnson slammed the opposition for voting against his call for a snap election in the final minutes of a stormy late-night debate ahead of a controversial suspension of parliament called by the prime minister.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will appeal the victory of former Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, at the State and National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal in Enugu.

Foreigners flee South Africa xenophobia attacks

Beverlyn Nyamakwenje was fast asleep in her home in the east Johannesburg township of Katlehong when she was woken by gunshots.

Instructed by her panicked father, the 19-year old Zimbabwean grabbed a few belongings and fled with him to a police station for safety.

“We left our bags,” Nyamakwenje said. “We only took two minutes.”

Nyamakwenje is one of around 850 people who have taken refuge in halls set up for foreigners displaced by xenophobic violence in the Joburg region, a municipal spokesman said.

On countless times, the Nigerian military leadership under the All Progressives Congress (APC) thus far has clearly shown that it is collectively a body of incompetent fellows who were in the first instance appointed Generals, given the exalted positions based on the quota system of Nigeria’s government appointment or nepotism, and not particularly on merit.
