No cause for alarm, I’ll be governor – Melaye talks tough

Senator Dino Melaye said on Friday that he will appeal the judgment of the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal which nullified his election as senator representing Kogi West in the Nigerian Senate.

It would be recalled that Melaye was declared the winner of the Kogi West Senatorial election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in February but the tribunal nullified it on Aug. 23 (Friday) and ordered for fresh election.

A three-man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment ruled in favour of Adeyemi’s petitions and ordered for reelection into the Kogi West senatorial …

A 30-year-old man was crushed to death by a falling elevator in his luxury apartment building Thursday as passengers watched in horror, officials said.

Samuel Waisbren rode the elevator down to the lobby of his 23-story apartment building, known as the Manhattan Promenade, at 344 Third Ave. near E. 26th Street with six other residents about 8:30 a.m., but didn’t make it out alive.

The victim’s devastated father, Dr. Charles Waisbren, made this known to the New York Daily News by phone from his home in Milwaukee on Friday.

We will protect South-East governors from IPOB – Ohanaeze

Following the attack on former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and threat to attack South-East governors by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Ohanaeze-Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) yesterday said it would do everything possible to shield the South-East governors from external aggression.

In a statement in Abakaliki by its National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the OYC said the attack on Ekweremadu and threat to attack South-East governors was being sponsored by politicians outside Igboland who want to smack the images of Igbo presidential hopeful ahead of 2023.He called for immediate ceasefire between South-East governors and IPOB, noting that the

It has always been all about the crude oil

By Odumodu Gbulagu

It’s common knowledge that Nigeria economy is dependent on crude oil, no matter every effort to diversify the economy.

While few people know about the scramble to control this goose that lays the golden egg, many Nigerians are blind to the fact.

After Buhari won elections in 2015, Ibe Kachikwu was the GMD NNPC(the company that controls the goose and its golden eggs),but he was tactically removed from there, and made a junior minister of petroleum, while Maikanti Baru was made the head of NNPC, and Buhari became the minister of petroleum.

Nigeria, others, to attract $103b gas investment in 2019

Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Mozambique, Senegal, and Mauritania have been identified as African countries that will spur investment in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) on the continent to about $103 billion this year.

Holding about 7.1 per cent of proven global gas reserves, a report yesterday, from the 5th Gas Summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, said the continent will contribute nearly 10 per cent of global LNG production growth through to 2024.

It added that on the demand side, Africa’s large, urbanised and industrialised societies of the future would require reliable and sustainable power generation.Citing greenfield investments in Nigeria, Egypt, Mozambique, …

The politics of shutting down Akanu Ibiam International Airport

Politics of shutting down Akanu Ibiam International Airport

By Odumodu Gbulagu

The worst thing that can happen to a man is for an oppressor to clearly deny him the knowledge of his history by tactically erasing it, so that the future generation won’t know the truth.
To achieve this, they make the oppressed think he’s the oppressor with little brainwashing.

Teaching of history in Nigeria schools wasn’t stopped for nothing, and the intended reason so far has been having full effect.

It’s no news that the federal government wanted to close down the airport indefinitely, and after some measures put in place by Enugu state government and the …

Presidency: Igbo must strategise for 2023 – Aghanya

‘North holds the key to Igbo presidency in 2023’

Immediate past Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Joe Nworgu, in this interview  talks about Igbo presidency in 2023 and other national issues.

How would you describe President Buhari’s stance towards Southeast in the past four years in relation to your earlier position that his presidency won’t serve the interest of Ndigbo?
Four years ago, I was Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and I recall making public statements on how best it suited the Igbo and I did not factor President Buhari into it. I had followed President Buhari when he was head of state in 1983 through 1985, when he took power …

Atiku: I’m appealing tribunal verdict to ensure votes count

Atiku’s petition is ‘worthless’ – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during its final submissions before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) said Atiku Abubakar and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the petition that it transmitted results electronically and abandoned its pleadings by not calling any witnesses is “worthless.”

“This is a worthless petition. INEC did not abandon its pleadings. It only extracted salient evidence from their (petitioners) witnesses,” INEC’s lawyer, Yunus Usman (SAN) said on Wednesday.

“We urge the court to dismiss this petition, which was meant to test the water with two legs, and they are now falling.”

PDP and Abubakar …
