Christchurch attack: NZ sets $135m to buy back guns banned

New Zealand’s government on Thursday launched a multi-million-dollar, six-month guns “buy-back” scheme to compensate owners of powerful but newly banned semi-automatic weapons prohibited in the wake of deadly attacks on two mosques in the Southern city of Christchurch.

Finance Minister Grant Robertson and Minister of Police Stuart Nash said in a joint emailed statement that NZ$208 million ($135.97 million) had been set aside to compensate owners of the banned semi-automatic firearms up to 95% of the original cost.

They would have until Dec. 20 to hand in their guns.

NIS begins issuance of 10-year e-passport at Ikoyi office

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), will start the issuance of 10-year validity e-passport at the Ikoyi passport office on June 25, 2019.

A statement in Abuja on Thursday by the NIS spokesman, Sunday James said: “The enhanced 10 year validity e-Passport will be rolled-out at the Ikoyi Passport office on Tuesday 25th June 2019.

“In view of the above, the Service plans to shut down the existing payment platform for Ikoyi Passport office to give way for the new one.

‘Hence, the Ikoyi Passport office will only attend to Passport applications for the enhanced e-Passport effective from the stated date.…
