Rwanda re-opens border with Uganda to trucks for 12 days

Rwanda said on Monday it would re-open its busiest border post with Uganda to cargo trucks for 12 days, more than three months after it was closed amid tensions between the two neighbors triggered by security and economic disagreements.

In a statement, Rwanda’s revenue body said it was “pleased to inform the general public that heavy trucks are allowed to provisionally cross Gatuna border,” for 12 days starting Monday.

At the end of February, Rwanda started blocking Ugandan cargo trucks from entering at the crossing, which Rwandans call Gatuna and Ugandans call Katuna. Authorities in Kigali also stopped Rwandan nationals …

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will sworn-in Justice Kazeem Alogba as the acting chief judge of the state on Thursday, June 13, following the exit of Justice Opeyemi Oke, who is retiring from the state judiciary after statutory years of service.

The outgoing Justice Oke’s tenure ends today.

Sanwo-Olu approved the nomination of Justice Alogba, who is the most senior judge in line, to preside over the state judiciary in an acting capacity, pending the approval of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

We earlier reported how he allegedly assaulted social media influencer, Adegoke Pamilerin and how Nigerians reacted to the issue.

Now, Davido has tweeted an apology to Pamilerin on behalf of Perruzzi, in the heat of the moment. Rumour has it that Pamilerin was given a hundred thousand naira as compensation but until that’s confirmed, let’s hope the ‘Assurance’ crooner’s tweets helps ease the tension.

On the mere suspicion that an 11-year-old boy, Goodluck Amechi, wanted to steal his catfish, 61-year-old Jeremiah Obifor has used a sharp machete to cut off the boy’s wrist.

The incident happened on Friday, June 7, at about 8:20a.m around Okokomaiko area of Lagos. The matter was reported by Doris Isaac of No. 6, Ajanaku Street, Okokomaiko at about 12:20p.m.

Gunmen on motorbikes killed 43 people in waves of attacks in northern Nigeria, police said Monday, the latest violence by criminal gangs raiding villages and stealing livestock.

The series of attacks, carried out overnight Saturday to Sunday in Nigeria’s far northwestern Sokoto state, saw the gangs ride out from forest hideouts, speeding into villages and beginning to shoot.

“They opened fire on the village indiscriminately,” said Abdullahi Dantani, from the village of Satiru, where 18 people were murdered.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it has released 15,490 results of candidates who were suspected of being involved in examination malpractices.

JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, in a statement released in Abuja on Monday said “the board has further cleared and released the results of 15,490 candidates in this category.”

Benjamin said the decision followed an expert review of the allegations against the candidates after they were asked to upload certain credentials for scrutiny.

“At the end of the review exercise, the affected candidates were classified into five groups of candidates who have sufficiently proven innocence,” Benjamin said.
