EFCC investigates MTN’s listing on stock exchange

MTN Nigeria yesterday said that it was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the listing of its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

In a statement posted on the exchange web site by MTN Nigeria Communications, Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah, confirmed the investigation.

The statement said the company received a letter on May 23 from EFCC requesting information and documentation related to the listing of its shares on the NSE.

Mr Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Friday dragged 247Ureport, an online media and its Editor-In-Chief to court, demanding N5 billion in damages.

A package blast on a pedestrian street in the heart of France’s city of Lyon wounded several people Friday, officials said, just two days ahead of the country’s hotly contested European Parliament elections.

Patience Jonathan’s $5.7m, ₦2.4bn: EFCC seeks forfeiture

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to order the final forfeiture of $5.7million and N2.4billion belonging to former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan.

It said the money is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Moving an application for the final forfeiture, the EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, said Mrs Jonathan did not earn the money legitimately.

But, Mrs Jonathan, through her lawyer, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), said the money was not stolen.

Research institute develops erosion-control grass

Prof. James Adediran, the Executive Director, Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan, says IAR&T  has developed an erosion-control method, using Vetiver grass.

Adediran made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ibadan.

He said that Vetiver is a densely tufted, wiry, perennial grass with strong fibrous root system that can penetrate and bind the soil to a depth of up to three meters.

The professor said that the grass has stiff, erect stems that can form dense hedges against erosion.
