U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton is “more than ignorant” to argue that North Korea’s recent missile tests violated U.N. resolutions, the North’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Giving up missile tests would mean giving up the right to self defense, a North Korean foreign ministry spokesman was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the state KCNA news agency.

French police arrest 2 suspect over bomb explosion

French police have arrested two suspects following a blast in the city of Lyon that wounded 13 people last week, French authorities said on Monday.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner announced the first arrest on Twitter, a development later confirmed by Paris prosecutors, who handle all terrorism-related cases.

The prosecutors’ office later said a second suspect was arrested and detained.

Lyon mayor Gerard Collomb, a former interior minister, said one of the suspects is an IT student who was arrested as he stepped out of a bus.

African filmmaker Mati Diop shines at Cannes Film Festival

Mati Diop, French-Senegalese actress and director, has become the first black female director to win an award in Cannes Film Festival’s  72-year history.

News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that Diop took home the Grand Prix , equivalent of a silver prize, for her film  ‘Atlantics’, a Senegalese drama about sexual politics among young migrants.

The Grand Prix award,  bestowed by the jury of the festival on one of the competing feature films, is the second-most prestigious prize of the festival after the Palme d’Or.

EU election: UK Brexit party in early lead

The UK Brexit Party, led by former head of the right-wing UK Independent Party (UKIP), Nigel Farage, is leading in the UK European Parliament elections, according to preliminary results.

According to the results, Farage’s pro-Brexit party received the majority of votes in the country’s northeast, east and in Wales.

On Friday, UK YouGov pollster released a survey that projected that the Brexit Party would receive 37 percent of votes in the EU elections, meaning it would get up to 28 seats in the legislature.

University offers $40,000 scholarship to UTME best, Ekene

Academic City College, a private university in Accra, Ghana, has offered scholarship worth $40,000 to Ekene Franklin Ezeunala, the candidate who scored 347 – the highest score – in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The College Senior Admissions Manager (Nigeria), Mrs Ogechi Ekpe, said on the sidelines of a workshop organised by the institution for schools and parents at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, at the weekend that the scholarship would cover tuition and boarding for the duration of his programme at the university.

CBN has no multiple exchange rates – Emefiele

Those accusing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of operating multiple foreign exchange (forex) rates are wrong, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele has said.

What obtains are multiple foreign exchange (forex) windows, Emefiele said.

The CBN boss spoke at the University of Ibadan (UI) Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series, organised by the university in collaboration with the apex bank in Ibadan.

The multiple forex windows ensures that forex reaches critical sectors of the economy, he added.

Emefiele noted that the naira exchange rate had substantially converged around N360/$1, whether it is in the parallel market, or in the CBN.

137 pipelines points vandalised in February – NNPC

No fewer than 137 pipelines points were vandalised in February which represents a 40 per cent drop  when compared to the reported incident in January, according to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The corporation made the fact known in its Monthly Financial and Operation report released in Abuja, on Sunday.

It said: “A breakdown of the report indicated that in February 2019, a total of 137 pipeline points were vandalised which translated to 40 per cent drop from the 230 points vandalised in January 2019.’’

Suicide: Cleric urges Nigerians to study, obey word of God

A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Kingsley Ferdinand, has advised Nigerians to always study and obey the word of God in order to have innermost peace to prevent them from opting for suicide in difficult moments.

Ferdinand, the Associate Priest at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nyanya, Abuja,  gave the advice at Mass on Sunday.
