EFCC apprehends four suspects of cyber crime

Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested four suspected internet fraudsters in Calabar, the Cross River State.

Their arrests followed two seperate raids carried out in the early hours of May 4 and May 5.

The Saturday morning operation led to the arrest of a known “yahoo” kingpin, Akpojivi Joel Onoriode, a 29-year-old graduate of Delta State University, Abraka, who is married with two kids.

Onoriode was arrested in his “lavishly furnished” duplex located at Plot 10, Block VI, UniCal Satellite Town, Calabar, which he allegedly confessed was purchased with proceeds …

BREAKING: Police rescue toddler abducted from MFM

The police in Lagos have rescued a two-year-old child abducted from the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Church (MFM) regional headquarters in Agege in March.

Baby Esther Ojo was recovered in an operation led by the Igando Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Taiwo Kasumu, a Chief Superintendent (CSP).

The police also arrested the kidnappers, Nwaigbo Magnus and Sixtus Osunwoke Egwim, who were waiting to collect ransom at the location they asked the baby’s parents to bring the money.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have welcomed their first child, with Buckingham Palace announcing that the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a son at 5:26am, local time.

Baby Sussex was born weighing seven pounds and three ounces.

Mother and child are reported to be doing well.

The Duke and Duchess are likely to announce the baby’s title in a few days, when the name will also be announced.

South Africa, South Sudan conclude deal on oil exploration

South Sudan and South Africa will sign a production sharing agreement for an untapped exploration block in the East African country, South Sudan’s petroleum ministry said on Monday.

The ministry said in a statement in Jubai that Exploration Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) for Block B2 would be signed by Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum and Jeff Radebe, South Africa’s Minister of Energy.

A 55-year-old housewife, Hama Aliyu of Sabon Gayan village, Kaduna State, on Monday dragged her husband, Dahiru Musa, before a Sharia court l, Magajin Gari, for allegedly calling her a commercial sex worker.

Catalan ex-leader Puigdemont permitted to run for EU polls

Catalonia’s former president Carles Puigdemont, who fled Spain in 2017 after a secession attempt, can contest EU polls this month, a Madrid court said Monday, overturning a decision by the electoral board.

A court spokesman said Puigdemont would be able to run, as would Toni Comin and Clara Ponsati, who were in the regional government during the secession bid and fled. They had also been excluded.

The decision comes a day after the Supreme Court ruled there had been no grounds to bar them and asked an administrative court in Madrid to “immediately” provide a ruling.

BREAKING: Court extends remand order on dismissed Inspector

An Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos has extended till June 10, its remand order against a dismissed Police Inspector, Olalekan Ogunyemi, charged with murdering a football fan, Kolade Johnson.

This means that Ogunyemi, 45, who has already spent 30 days in Ikoyi Prison custody following his remand by the court on April 6, will now stay in custody for 35 more days.

Magistrate A.O. Salawu extended the remand order because the advice on the case which was expected this morning from the Office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), is not ready.

Russian plane crash kill 41

Forty-one people died after a Russian plane made an emergency landing and burst into flames just after takeoff from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.

Dramatic video shows passengers using emergency exit slides to escape the burning Aeroflot aircraft.

Survivors suggest the plane was struck by lightning, but Russia’s national carrier said that it returned to the airport for technical reasons.

 Two children are among the dead. The jet had 73 passengers and five crew.

Initial reports suggested the plane had landed on fire, but sources quoted by Russian news agency Interfax said the jet caught fire after a very bumpy landing.

11,000 people murdered in 8 yrs by Zamfara bandits – Marafa

A member of the National Assembly, Senator Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara Central) has put the total number of lives lost to armed  banditry in Zamfara State since 2011 at 11, 000.

Marafa who is the Chairman of Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), in a statement yesterday declared that the unfortunate and dark eight years of banditry from 2011 to date in the state had conservatively led to the killing of over 11,000 male adults
