Sacked Ekiti workers protest, beg Fayemi for re-absorption

Some workers recently disengaged by the Ekiti State government for being  ‘irregular workers’,  yesterday   staged a peaceful protest to appeal to Governor Kayode Fayemi to reverse  the decision.

  The Nation gathered that among the protesters were the 568 primary and secondary school teachers recruited into Teaching Service Commission (TSC) by ex-governor Ayodele Fayose. They are among the 2,000 state workers employed after the July 14, 2018 election.

The protesters stormed the Teaching Service Commission located within the State Secretariat complex at about 8.30am with their letters of appointments to show that they were legitimately hired.

Worried by the spate of killings and kidnapping in the region, the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) rose from a meeting in Kaduna yesterday with a resolve to develop a regional action plan to end the multiple security challenges.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it is worried over the frightening dimension which cyber crime has assumed in the country, especially the South East.

The South East Zonal Head of the commission, Mr Usman Imam, expressed the worry on Friday in Enugu while briefing newsmen on the activities of EFCC in the first quarter of 2019.

Leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) company in Nigeria, MTN Nigeria Plc, has announced the signing of a seven-year N200 billion medium term facility.

Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Ferdi Moolman, announced this after signing the agreement at the law offices of Aluko & Oyebode in Lagos on Friday.

A group, Human Rights Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIJE) has accused politicians in Anambra state of using branded vehicles to peddle hard drugs and other harmful products.

The group asked the Police to implement its decision of impounding such unmarked vehicles of political parties in the state.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday remanded a school teacher, Benjamin Ogba, who allegedly defiled four school girls under the age of 12.

Ogba, 44, is facing two-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent treatment.

He, however, pleaded not guilty but was denied bail.
